CLOSED *2010 SPRINGTIME* Ignitech Group buy. C-U next year.
|
|
|
|
|
For folks new to the board or CDI threads, this is in reference to a group purchase of Ignitech CDI replacement units for the CX500's so equipped.
For anyone interested and you CX'ers that have asked on this board and email about another group buy, I'm up for one more for the Spring (Late March-Early April 2010.) Just in time for the 2010 riding season.
Everyone keep your fingers crossed the Euro/Dollar exchange rate doesn't increase too much, they can get pricey in U$ if that happens.
Until then, you folks interested can just leave a short post in this thread. There is no obligation at all until I have a final number of participants along with a firm delivered to your door price. That's ALL I need to get an idea of the number of total units to get a price from the manufacturer.
Check these previous threads, answers to just about any questions you have can probably be found there:

Here's a "bump" for this thread.
I would like one Ignitech in the spring. I got one with the first "group buy" (late summer 09) and am very satisified with it.

Late march early april... I'll start saving Now. Do i need to have a paypal account or can i send a money order? Wouldn't hurt to finally bit the bullet and get a paypal account i suppose. What better reason than upgrading my baby! I believe the last group buy paid 165 or so. Maybe cheaper this time through with enough takers.

He has paypal but will accept snail mail too. If currency stays were it is or was I would assume 10 units or so at $165. But I would really like to see more guys take advantage of this. Personally I would like to see 20 or more bought. The more bought the bigger discount.

I'm new to the group, but would like to purchase 2 Ignitech units.
I have a 80 CX 500C, and a 78 CX 500.
I joined the group because I intend to go over
my 80 CX, and will need a lot of help from the forum. From what i've been reading this is a very good forum to be in,if yo own a CX or GL modle bike.

I'm in, definitely will have that much by march or april. The CDI/stator is the only part of my bike I don't have complete confidence in. Just 1 for me though.

One question that I may have simply missed; would the Ignitech conversion typically extend the life of the stator?

Bryan, I don't think the Ignitech will help stator life. As I understand it, the stators are always putting out their max, but the excess is being shunted to ground by the rectifier assembly. Now, there are 3 windings in the CDI stator, two feed the ignition, and one charges the battery. Since the Ignitech runs solely off the battery, the two ignition windings can be lost and nothing will happen. But if the charging winding goes south, you will be depending on reserve battery power alone to power the bike's ignition.
I suppose one could make a case of the two windings not being used will lower the heat around the charge winding and make it last longer. I believe a lot of the guys are using a GL stator when the CDI stator goes out. They only have the charge windings and also put out more amperage. I don't know exactly how much current the ignition system uses with a Ignitech box, but that amount will now be supplied by the battery. And the CDI charging systems are marginal to begin with. Now you are adding a little more load, and have less for other uses.

h'Audi, just checking in and giving the thread a little bump. I've been out of the country in much warmer climes for the last month and a half or so and just got back.
Sorry I didn't respond to the emails from you guys out on the left coast, I only managed to check the email address I forward to from this list a few minutes ago. I had a Homer Simpson moment before departing and left the USB drive with all my password variations on it hanging in it's USB port on the home desktop. Besides this message, I'll email you guys who emailed me too, sorry, there's no way to get anywhere near the price of the group buy for only a couple of units, not all of us can live in places with year round riding weather. If you REALLY need it yesterday, you'll have to bite the bullet and order it individually or put out a feeler and see if you can get a loaner from a fellow CX'er to tie you over.
A running tally isn't really necessary, but it doesn't hurt either. If previous buys are any indication, the actual number of units doesn't deviate much at all, it seems that for every person who drops out someone else comes out of nowhere to keep the numbers even.

CDI *MARCH 2010* Ignitech Group buy.
|
|
|
|
|
hAudi all.
I will start the ball rolling on this the first week of March, with a little luck and no snafu's this should have the Ignitech CDI units being delivered to you guys and gals by the first or second week of April at the latest.
My psychic powers tell me that winter will be a bad memory by mid April and we'll actually HAVE a SPRING this year. We need it, last year it seemed winter ended in June around here!
As a reminder, just leave a message in this thread if you're interested and in how many. That's all, I will use this thread to send each of you a PM (Private Message) and Email through the Chopper Charles board. You're under no obligation until I have a final delivered to your door price, your unit is confirmed and the buy is closed.

Happy with the one I bought!
Would like another, have still more CX project machines that I'd like to work over.
Add me to list for one more please! Thanks for working this group buy, it makes price on the box VERY affordable.

Still waiting. Don't know if the roommate wants one for his bike or not (since I do have at least 1 known good CDI box) - but I'm definitely down for one :)

Even though my bike seems fine for the moment...put me down for one. Seems like some simple pevention for future problems. I know it's the cart before the horse but does my 1980 cx500 needs this? Anybody know for sure? Thanks.

Doward you should kick your roommate but then again my brother has two cx's a custom and a standard and he prefers I figure out the problem instead of him even becoming a member. I would sign myself up but then I realize if he really wanted one he would get it himself.
You can lead a horse to water but it's not going to BBQ itself.

If anyone is on the fence to buy or not and you can afford it always go with buy because you will most likely get it for $80 cheaper that if you did it on your own and the resale value is there. I seem to think cobram has always bought a couple extras and they sold quickly.
