What 10 Bikes Would You Own?
Reply Quote
On a previous post I stated that I'd own 10 bikes if I had enough space. So what 10 would you buy? Here's my initial list which started to run out of steam around 7:

1: CX500 - It's obvious!
2: 450 Nighthawk - My 1st bike
3: Triumph Bonneville - Olde English Vintage bike
4: CB600F Hornet - For my Wife
5: Z50A - For the Kids
6: Kawi Concours - 2 Up Touring
7: CB750SC Nighthawk - Still my favorite
8: Ruckus 50 - Ride to the Post Office
9: Track bike
10: Streetable dirt bike for gravel roads

I imagine having 10 would drive me crazy just between batteries, chains and tires but if it works for Leno..
80 CX500 Deluxe - Sold
86 Interceptor 500
93 Kawi Concours
81 GL500 - The Silver Thing, gone but not forgotten

Damn this is going to be hard.
1: Guess I have to keep the Cx500 Custom since it's my baby.
2: Honda Shadow under 10 years old
3: I can't be greedy so I need to get melody a few bikes. She really like the yamaha Rt100 that she has so I'll take one of those.
4: Another for Melody. Honda Rebel 250 new or old doesn't matter as they all seems to have low miles.
5: Kawasaki KLR 250 or greater. The one my brother blew up was a pretty good on and off road machine.
6: A Motoguzzi of some sort. Probably a california.
7: A Ural of some sort with side car and 2wd rear wheel.
8: I guess it's time for a death bike of some type. Doesn't the middle 80's VT1100 go up to 160mph.
9: You know a BMW sounds good around now. So a BMW F 800 GS would fit the bill since I'm curious what they are all about and it would add another enduro to the pack.
10: Damn the list is getting down there so I mise well get a gl or cx 650 naked in wine berry.

10 bikes is really to many unless you have the room or are flipping them so I'll knock it down to the three that are necessary. Which are 1, 4, and 8.

4 would be red like this.

And 8 would probably look like this.

1. CX500 (too much blood into it to sell)
2. Nighthawk 700SC (hopefully picking up tomorrow)
3. Suzuki V-Strom 650
4. BMW R1200GS-A
5. Moto Guzzi V7 (probably cafe classic)
6. Honda ST1300
7. Honda Africa Twin
8. some small enduro (maybe TW200)
9. Some old British bike
10. Moto Guzzi V8

OK, so the last one is a complete pipe dream, never to be reality, but most of these are doable. And most have shaft drive. I guess you can tell a lot about me by that list.

Then the new british bikes....
5. A cruiser Bonneville America, got it
6. A crazy fast bike 1050 Speed Triple, got it
7. a new Moto Guzzi Cafe Racer I love that big ole' air headed twisted twin in classic racey trim
then of course some Jap classics
8. Yamaha sx650 the older ones with spoke wheels, looks like a brit twin, but works all the time
9. CB750 k1 the bike that changed motorcycling by exceding everyone's expectations
10. My honda cx500 cafe racer This bike has turned out to be so freakin' fun to ride.

That would do it, I'm not greedy.
I got room for all of them in the garage, and the tools to work on 'em just need about 600k in spare change. I'm gonna go with the lottery for a few more months... then most likely come up with a new plan for the money part

DougG -- no buffeting whatsoever from my upright windshields.

Ohm -- I used to have a Suzuki GT380 and it was one of the best sounding bikes I've ever ridden.  The induction sound went, "Whaauuuummm  waauuummm  whoooaaamm!"  Handling was pretty bad though.  Scary bad.

I haven´t owned bikes for so long that I can list a row of personal nostalgia bikes. There are a couple, that played a role during my childhood though.

The others are just bikes I´ve been riding (some for my local bike dealer) or are on my "wish-list".

1. Indian Chief with side-car. The first bike I was on - my father´s cousin let me go with him when he visited. Fond memories....
2. BMW R 25. Same owner and a remarkably cute little bike. Saw a mint one in Bangkok many years ago and started to drool..
3. Yamaha V-MAX 2009. A brute. I never had the guts to let it show near its full potential. RESPECT!!
4. Yamaha MT-01. Lots of power and rather primitive. Some charm to add to the muscles.
5. Honda GL 1800. They don´t make them more comfortable than so. The engine is a gem!
6. Yamaha FJR 1300. Fast. It´s something about tourers that do easy power wheelies.
7. Moto Guzzi 850 Le Mans. A beauty, displaying its engine nicely. + the sound!!
8. Victoria Bergmeister. A predecessor to the CX family. There were some few in my town when I was young.
9. RUMI 125 sport. They were everywhere when I was young. Terrific sound!
10. Velocette Thruxton. A friend of mine owns one and they are indeed classy bikes.

I certainly wouldn´t mind a garage with one of each...

Sture

Honda CX 500 (B) x 4.
Honda CB 400 N (C) Superdream -82. M´lady´s learner bike.
Yamaha SRX 600 -86. Project, currently in wait mode.
PAV 40, Czech single-wheel bike trailer. Project with many stand-stills.

My list is always subject to change as time goes on - some bikes I like now are not what I wanted 10 years ago.
So in no particular order:
- 1977 or 78 Harley XLCR
- Vincent Black Lightning (for display in the living room)
- Sunbeam S7 (because I like the balloon tires)
- Benelli 900 Sei
- Moto Guzzi Sport 1100i
- 1977 Yamaha TY250D (in mint condition - like mine was when I stupidly sold it....)
- Aprilia Shiver 750
- Ducati ST3 (with touring kit)
- Indian Chief  (vintage Indian - not a new, imitation Indian)
- BMW K1200LT with every option possible (for cross country)
- BMW G650GS (the errand runner)
- GL 650 Interstate (new, with 0 mileage)

yeah I know that's more than 10..............

2) 85 BMW K100RT
3) 72 CB750

5) 36 Indian Chief (okay not readily available or affordable!)
6) I love my GL500i, a few years ago it wouldn't have been on my list but now it is.
7) Any newer superbike, but I've gotta save that one for last, cause I'll probably kill myself once I get on a bike meant to go really really fast lol.

10 huh?  Here goes:

1) 1983 CX650T - have

2) 1977 CB750F - have

3) 2002 VFR800I - have

4) 1979 CBX

5) 1975 CB400F

6) I'll throw a Black Bomber in here

7) Probably a dedicated dirt bike (likely Honda 4 stroke)

8) Maybe a dual sport here (KTM950/990?)

Sorry, but I'm going to be somewhat practical and call the list here.

I can play this game!!!!  In no special order.... none would be new ...gives them a chance to develop their personality.... all would have to be very clean but not 100 point show bikes

The  Honda's would include GL/CX 's , a CBX, a CB750 (love the exotic sound with pipes)

I have been interested in an Allstate/Puch Twingle( i' perfer the better looks of the Puch's
gas tank)

Got to have a squirt around town scooter: looks like a Zuma 50  or a Yamaha C-3 (great storage and lots of body work to paint up) would fit the bill

A 250 ninja would be a blast for those days when...

One F.I. 1200 HD sportster set with bags and a wind screen.

Something with a side car... BMW 600/R5 .

Lets try a  Big Scooter: the Yamaha 500 twin

And throw in a Moto Guzzi.

Most important is the time and friends to spend with and wittle the list down
to thefavorite one or two... or three or four ....

I went into partnership on a 1975 Kawasaki Z1B 900cc bike, it needs a lot of cleaning, the engine has surface corrosion, seat needs a new cover, new chain and tires.

It does run with no major problems other needing new points and maybe a carb clean.

On the KZ and vintage Kawasaki forums everybody raves about this vintage superbike and say its the most wanted bike period and it has been drawing very high Blue Book values.

I wonder if anybody hear have the same feeling? It doesn't exactly turn my gears or float my boat, I would rather have a Valkyrie or Goldwing.

Silverado, would this be a triple cylinder by chance. If so, I know them are highly prized in the kawasaki world. Don't know much about them though.

On top of having my gorgeous CX of course:

Anything over 700 cc AND that does NOT have a chain AND that is NOT a Harley.

LOL

Would absolutely LOVE something with anti-lock brakes as I've felt the front lock up before in lieu of a "quick stop because of a car pulling out"...(I released it in time before I lost control).

The Kawasaki I was going to buy I passed it up, I am thinking my next bike will be a sport tourer like the Yamaha FJR1300.
I'm still working on a ten bike list, since I'm not Jay Leno I can only afford a couple at best.

I already have six bikes, but I would gladly trade in four of those to make room. I have to keep two.

1-RZ350...I have an '89. It stays.

2-XT550 Yamaha. It stays too.

3-CX650Turbo...my Eurosport would go to make room.

4-Guzzi Daytona 1000 or V11 LeMans

5-Yamaha GTS 1000 (or BMW K1, either would make me happy)

6-Yamaha XTZ750 Super Tenere (but a Triumph Tiger 900 or BMW R80GS would work too)

7-Triumph 675 Daytona

8-CBX

9-FZ750

10-CB350-4 or FZ400...one of the tiny 4 cylinders

Of course I wouldn't really stop at ten. I still want to replace my old CB175, and there is always another interesting bike out there...

Lets see 10... Ok, I can do this.

1) CX650T (would gladly settle for a 500T)

2) CX650E

3) CBX Ideally one of the later ones with dual disks, and would do away with the chrome exhaust. I just think the chrome header makes the 6cyl look weird.

4) Kawasaki Concours 14

5) A Guzzi of some sort. V7 Classic maybe.

6) Ural with 2wd

7) This Italian military Vespa

8) KLR650 Loaded up with camping gear.

9) Tomos top tank moped. Just looks like it'd be fun to ride around my neighborhood.

10) BMW enduro. Not sure which one, but Im running out of steam, and I think they look cool

Well, thats 10.

Can't name ten, but without a doubt a lot of classics have been listed here.

1) Honda CR250

2) Honda CB175 - a rarity

Have owned both, but then again I had a 50cc Italian built Harley that was a lot of fun so long as you didn't need any power or more than 3 gears.

I guess I can't forget the old Yamaha 650 Magna I had at one time. Factory demo, cam was different, full fairing but it was just a hair too top heavy in full dress for me at the time. First time I've ever seen 140 mph on a bike with room still left to spare and it would get there quite quickly.

Let me tell you - soon as you get much past 100 you lose your side vision capabilities and all you can do is look far forward.

Just purchased  CX500 Cafe Racer project bike last month. Saw a CX500 Cafe Racer and really liked this bike:

Enjoy riding my Son's Honda VTX1800. He is talking about buying a Sport Touring bike and if he wants to sell his VTX, would like to buy it:

Enjoy Dual Sport riding on my KLR650:

Traded a naked SV650 for another bike, would like to have another one:

Enjoy Riding my DL650 (Vstrom):

Last but not least, motorcycle yard art, but I don't think Debbie will let me put it in the front yard!

Wow it seems that everyone here has similar taste in bikes. my list would go like this

CX500D, Ol' Bessie, have her and she's farkled to the extreme. Could never get rid of her because no one would know how to take care of her. She'll go with me to the grave.

Honda CA77 tourng dream with the windshield and bags, A red one will do.

Honda CT90 any year newer than 71, Love the dual range tranny and the metal baskets and the spare fuel tank.

KLR650 With metal saddlebags, and older one, pre 2007.

V-strom. any size, I have a 1000 currently and it fits perfectally, the handle bars are the right length and hight, the pegs are not to high and I'm not sore when I get off after 230 miles.

CB350F My first bike, I have two of these now.

CB400F My second bike I have none but there is one for sale in Boston for 800 bucks.

1983 Yamaha Vision, A bear to get running right but a very nice balanced bike with enough power, shaft drive and liquid cooling. I think it was to compete with the CX

1993+ Honda CB750, A reliable standard. The kind of girl you marry, looks good, and can cook, and is still exciting after all these years, never lets you down.

1980 to 1987 R80RT I drove a 1986 version on a lap of the Med. Then drove it for a lap of the US. It's the only bike that I put over 100K miles on. I have had three of these.

A whole bunch of old junk

I don't really think I would WANT ten bikes, but if I had the room and the money and the understanding wife, let's see how far I would get:
1) 1978 CX500 - just to have the first year
(Had one but sold it this past Fall)
2) 1982 CX500 Turbo - got it.
3) 1982 CX 500 Turbo - would like one more, just because they're not making anymore of 'em and I like the colour scheme better than the '83 650T.
4) 1983 CX650 Turbo - just because I would want to see what the bigger displacement did for the bike.
5) 1983 GL650 - just got one!
6) 1978-80 Yamaha SR500 - simple and beautiful, and I've always wanted one.
7) 1982 or 83 Yamaha Vision - basically Yamaha's stab at twin-cylinder, water-cooled, shaft-drive heaven. Had one that I never got running and sold it to a guy who is fixing it up. I'm making him an honorary member of the Atlantic Canada chapter of the HTTA!
8) 1984 Gold Wing Interstate - because in 1984, I had a deposit on a new one but had to back out...as I worked for a Honda (car) dealership at the time, it was going to cost me $4400!
9) 1979 Suzuki GS750 - because it was my first new bike. I remember driving it home from the dealership like it was YESTERDAY! I was blown away by the power and smoothness--understandable since I had moved up from a poor-running two-stroke GT380.
10) Okay, I got to ten. But I have to cheat a little. You see, I think I would have ONE MORE 1982 CX500 Turbo. Just because I think it is the most beautiful, most perfect, most incredible bike ever built!
And they're not making them anymore. And I don't EVER want to NOT have one that works.
