Austrailian Supertank for Cx500 Custom
|
|
|
|
|
Does anyone know where there is a picture or expired add for the huge 5 gallon cx500 custom tank. I know I first saw them on one of the german Cx/gl forums.
Who sold them in the first place? I remember the pictures I saw were from a german rally in a place that started with a V.
I recognized the Dn-01 clone GL there. Eurovee's bike.

Vechta.
I´ve seen one of those tanks there. I also knew the name of the manufacturer but have forgot.
I believe Bernt Muhl had / has one for sale. He´s not the cheapest guy in the universe, but maybe worth a try if you really want one badly. He should at least be able to tell the name of the manufacturer.

I´m sure he understands English language well enough to be able to respond to an e-mail.

I know they weren't cheap when available. I think the price was $500 but I think that the right creative person could fabricate one. Also the 2 or three bikes I saw in the picture in the past had triple light bars and I think that would help the guys looking to go that way so they know how good it will look.

Yeah but that's not it. Nobody should physically need the camel tank Tim had with the 4.5 gallon tank on the deluxe/standard.
See that big sucker on the left. That's what i'm looking for better pictures on and a full frontal.

Wow,
That big hippo tank sure looks a lot better than that ugly tank I had on my CX500D twenty years ago. But I wanted that bike because the tank of course had a bigger capacity and being all legs, was a little higher.

To me that tank looks like some sort of Harley tank or an aftermarket version because it has the sunken in gas cap. I would look around at the aftermarket companies that produce tanks.

Are you sure that isn't just a tank from a different Honda? Maybe a CB900C or something like that?
Someone in the Australian group made a bigger CX tank years ago and posted a how to on the old MSN group. I believe they just cut up a normal tank and inserted some new metal.

I think it is a modified Harley tank too. If you look it has a fuel shut-off on the right hand side too.

Stitch these last two pics are awesome. The forward controls pic is awesome. Not to hijack this thread but do you have a pic showing the end hooking up to the engine.
Also the red tank is (jaw dropping awesome!)
Anyone:
Is this tank from another bike? Or does anyone know more about it?

Damn that sounds great. To bad I got rid of my spare custom tanks to Joel. The one I have sitting around here is a thin piece of junk with pinholes but there may be one hidden somewhere.
Just curious which way would you extend it? Up, out or both.

Both. I would just listen to what the tank asked for. Really, they do talk to you when you start cutting on them. ouch ouch ouch ...
See what you can find. Maybe a tank on line that you could have shipped here instead of shipping to your house first.
My buddy Ron might even let me use his bike to size it up on when the time comes. I know your reading this Ron.

I think but can't confirm it but I think the magna tank is a 3 gallon tank too. We're looking for 4.5 to 5 gallons.

I agree with Stitch the manga tank looks very similar. But too it looks a little small
A couple of things. Were the tanks on the Magnas different sizes depenmding on the cc's?
Also the newer shadows tanks look bigger as the Valkryries.
Stitch looking at the pics you posted can we get a zoom up close of the blue one. Do you really think that one is 4.5 to 5 gal big?

I would put money on it. Remember if you build a tank right there is a lot of unused area under the tank.
When I saw the specs on both the custom and deluxe tanks it was in an image like one ripped out of the back of an old magazine.

If someone really wanted to know if a bigger tank from another model would fit you could find a bike wrecker that has a CX in their yard (shouldn't be hard to find) and get them to let you try tanks on it.
I did that when I was putting a bike together once. It was the only time I have ever been happy with how far I could go on a tank of gas.....
I still have that tank in the attic, but it will only work on a bike with a single backbone frame. Maybe one day I might try modifying it to fit a double backbone....

The moment I saw those decals I was like WOW! More stuff to spend what little money I have on.
So simply cut and paste in microsoft word. Edit with adding color. Enlarge to proper size and save it to a flash card. Take it to a local print shop.
I dont think it will work. But it was my thought.

I think or thought they were slightly mass producing them and then stopped.
But I have decided that I'm going to get one. Maybe not from Germany but I found a nice candidate for Larry to start chopping on. I just need a box to send it to him in.
Last year I was deciding on if I should get one of the milwaukee vintage moto guys to expand the tank for me. He's done several but his start to finish prices were enough that I could buy another Cx.

There will be lots of pictures when I get the tank back. But it will take as long as it takes. I have spares.
Do you mean tank side cover decals or actual side cover decals?
I think there was a place in canada selling both.
