Great bike Lil Beast! My experience with bikes is very limited but what forks / front end are you using? It doesn't look like the stock forks but maybe that's just because you have it lowered.

Lil Beast.
Do you have a hard stop in place to avoid the rear wheel/exhaust from meeting? ...Or are the rear shocks just set up super stiff? Also, do you plan on incorporating rear sets? How does the bike ride/handle? Whats next, if anything?

No bump stop Red, I have it set up pretty stiff. Im 200lbs and no prob with the tire hitting when im alone. It does hit when I have a light female passenger on the back and even then it doesnt hit much.
It rides great to be honest. There is quite a bit more travel than it looks. The pipes are spaced a bit apart to allow for the to move up between them. Throttle? it was real cold when i took the vid, still snow on the ground lol.
The front end is from an 80 CB650, trees and all.
Thanks all.

Well, she's certainly not finished and not running perfectly but close enough for a ride to work on such a great day.

Quite a bit more raucous with those secondhand shorty pipes but I kind of like it in town. I noticed that I was noticed. I could see that I'd get tired of the 'blat' on a longer trip though.
I want to thank all you guys here. I got the lions' share of my confidence from reading about a bunch of people with the same (bike-related) problems. Hell, there must have been at least four of you out there doing the same triple bypass when I was doing mine. That was insanely useful.
Now I just have to resolve the (hopefully) last and (hopefully) minor coolant leak, clean my starter or solenoid or switch (one of them is giving me clicks but no kicks), find a decent front brake disk (anyone?) and throw some new pads on. And install my volt meter and air horns. And clean and lube the final drive. Next year; paint the tin and plastic, new tires and maybe another headlight or seven.
Cheers!

I posted some pics of my CX500 trike in the general discussion threads, but thought it wouldn't go amiss to post one or two here, seeing as I will be posting more about it's continued revamp in this thread.

Immediate near future plans include a brand new IRS rear end based on a Ford Sierra axle n diff.
Further into the future plans include a GL500 fairing and a CX650 engine transplant.

Well here I go again. I pulled off the fairing to find a leak and this is what happens. Found a headlight assy and installed it. I have some CX500 Deluxe emblems coming for the side covers, hopefully they will be here soon, thanks to Sture. I am still working on finding the oil leak, pulled the radiator out a bit, but couldnt see anything that looked like it was leaking, so I think I will just run it this way until winter hits then pull it apart to fix it. The harley pips are working great, I am not sure of my gas mileage but I can do a 200 mile trip and only use between 3.5 and 4 gallons. That was with the heavy fairing on it too, I am hoping i can ride it home this weekend and see if taking the fairing off helps a bit.

What kind of bars are those on your bike liil beast? I bought some clubman bars, but they make me reach too far forward and i am on the shorter side. I think yours look like they come back a little farther, and they look real nice.

I like the way your headers look. How old is the paint at the time you took that pic? What kind of paint did you use. Sweet ride by the way.

Thanks Phil. I painted the headers a couple months ago when I took off the H box and put on the straight pipes. The paint I used was just the high heat exhaust paint from Autozone. It's still a work in progress, but it's coming along nicely I think.

I did some work to the bike, so I thought I'd post an updated picture. The mufflers are from a harley softail that I got from the local dealer for free. They're not attached quite yet. I still have to make a bracket to hold them. Right now, I'm running without mufflers and it seems to run pretty well.

This was my summer project. I think I have a photo in this thread someplace, but Ive changed some somewhat major things. This winter I think I will polish the rims. What do you guys think? Should I just repaint the black in the rims or will it look odd with super shinny polished rims seeing as though the bike is kind of dark looking with the red motor and so much black? Kind of concerned that polished rims might look out of place. But I wouldn't mind making it look a bit brighter. That was my main reason for putting the new Harley cans on.
Oh.. and should I paint the bottom of the side panels red to match the motor? The trunk will be eventually painted black to match the rest of the bike.

When I bought it a few months back

And now (Well a little has changed in the last week but not much)

i for one ride year round i say screw winter dress warmer (or more leathers) only time i will not ride is when it snows outside which is maybe 2 days all winter (unless we have a freak storm come in in april and drop a foot of snow) so heres one to your tally tuy kat
people that ride year round i am sure tuy kat doesnt mind if you add your name to the list (atleast i dont think they do) lucky

Yep, you got me. I've gotten so many ideas for a build on this site that i want to see more! I'm trying to make a Cafe-kinda, sorta bike. I have been modifing the frame to acept the new harley wide glide seat i bought for it. I have the paint job done, but now I have some rust in the tank and need to flush it before i put it on. Bar end mirrors, low handle bars, exhaust wrap, ect. The bike has a great tone....I think I want to swap out the rear brake light and signals but not sure what i want it to look like. New front signals are a must as i put on a cafe fairing and want something sporty. Come one....i know there are more examples of great bikes out there. I will post picts of my own soon!

I was just checking ebay for after-market smoked or clear turn signal (blinkers/winkers) to give my bike a different look...and then I veered off course and came to this sight. I know now that I am on the right course! WOW! so many ideas! I feel like going to the garage and start making some mods on my 1981 CX500 :)
