well I've decided that until I can find an affordable GL1200 set of parts I'm just going to run the GL1000 344 gears. This gives me my spokie in the back...actually it gives me a 4.5" x 17" spokie in the back so I can even run a good 160. Problem is the front. What's the problem? It's a 6-lug brake setup up front.
So I'm curious if anyone knows if modern CBR rotors will bolt up to the old 6-lug pattern? The Comstars is easy...it's 5-lug pattern makes adapting 310mm Zooki rotors a simple machining process and I like the 310 over the 296 but you can't have a 5 lug and 6 lug pattern on a rotor...it'll never balance. So I thought I'd ask and see if anyone happened to know of a 15mm axle spokie that has a 5-lug hub?
spokies are sooooo sexy...did the CX ever come with spokies? spokies...mmmmmm....
Available from EssGlass ATV/Motorcycle Fabrication ~Preload adjusters (CX5/applicable): $55 + core caps ~310mm big brake kits (CX5/applicable): starting at $125 ~Left exit divorced exhaust: $225

so true with the spokes. I love them, and was wanting to do spokes, but didn't figure that I could use any rear rim but the star. Oh well.

there's about a million different options for the front...I really want a 17" up front but i have to settle for 19" it seems. If you can deal with a 21 late 80's and early 90's CR front wheels will fit with some shims.
Only setup I've found to take care of the rear is the GL1000 wheels...this is also the only way I've found so far to get the GL1200 288 gears (1200 hub and final).
Used to be that this could be solved by sticking cruiser wheels on your bike...but now everyone thinks cruisers need cast wheels, too.

Please excuse my ignorance, but I am a newbie here!! I also want to run spoke wheels, 'cos I think they look better. So you are saying that GL1000 wheels will bolt up with the CX500 shaft drive unit??. What about the swingarm?? Do you have to swap them over also?? What exactly would I need to perform this swap?? Is it a straight swap or quite a bit of messing about?? If you have pics please post them as I am greatly interested in how this could be done.
Thanks

It won't balance if one hole is common to both patterns. If both patterns are independently complete, it will balance.

Many CX owners in Europe have modified the std CX wheels to spoked.
You can see how it`s done here;

Alternative "5+6" rotor balancing method:
Two additional holes, flanking the "common" hole and on the same circle (leading and trailing by the same distance), having diameter .707 times the "standard" hole diameter, will restore the balance. Think of them as "negative-mass balancing weights".

Ok, so I checked out how they do it. But what if I want a rear disk brake conversion?? I was thinking of a GL1000 rear wheel and disk brake conversion.....wider wheel, but will it fit in CX swingarm?? or will a GL1000 swingarm have to be used also?? It is however very interesting how they put spokes on the CX hubs....

Don't laugh or bow -- throw money. (I'm unemployed...)
No greatness here. That's a textbook problem in Statics 101.
Actually, there's an error in what I wrote. Extra points to anyone who figures it out before I fix it when I have a few extra free minutes.....

Other option... install the CX650 rear end and then use a rear spoked wheel from a VT800 shadow. I think it'll work, at least...
