HT caps/Plug caps differnces from non turbo models
Reply Quote
I have a daft question to ask regarding High Tension spark plug caps for our machines.
Are they the same item as non-turbo models or do they differ in some way? I know the waterproof shroud is different on the old std 500's, (round not square/rectangular), and this is not a problem as I can make new shrouds, but can any one tell me whether there are any other reasons why I shouldn't use them on a 650T. I do not have any and have found a breaker with some near to me.
Thanks

I believe they are different? At least by part number. They are also expensive to buy new. Maybe find some used and put on some new wires. I have a set I believe if you would need them let me know.

Sorry SB but I'm pretty sure that is their standard reply for any part number you put in.  They are just saying that they found a match for the part number you entered.

Wouldn't hurt to give them a ring though if someone really wanted to know.

Wildmanwill, Spanish Bandit & CXTurboBoost
Thanks for your help fellas!

I must get around to printing all the parts lists/breakdowns for all the various CX models then I can start to cross reference them. I assume that they are all available on the site somewhere but I need to move a little speedily here hence the 'Lazy way', I will no doubt need a fair chunk of advice and help in the future as my 650T is in the boxes as shown in my avatar, this will change as the machine changes.

Spanish Bandit - I assume that your GT is Serveta? or is it Innocenti under a Spanish registration, as 1975 is very late for a GT? I too have several Innocenti models and have been fixing/mending/restoring them for 32 years now.

CXTurboBoost _ I may take you up on your offer if I cannot locate any this side of the pond, do you have a rough idea of price you would require?

Once again Many Thanks for your help.
Moose.

Would ones from another cx/gl 650 model work? They would be the right shape from a GL650 or CX650 Custom

The beginning portion of the part number is the same, just the middle portion (which is the model designation if I recall correctly) is different.  There are posts on here that explain honda's part number system.

 Honda Motorcycle Part Codes

The first string of digits (14511-XXX-XXX) indicates the Honda function and component number for this part.

The second string of digits (XXXXX-ME2-XXX) is the product code, also known as Parts Classification Number in hondaspeak. This is the number that indicates the product (motorcycle) where this particular part was first used. ME2 indicates that the blades were first used in Honda GL650 motorcycle. Honda often lists several different part numbers for the same part, indicating slight differences in the part, such as different supplier etc. For example there are four different part numbers listed for the clutch friction plates.

The product code is probably the most interesting portion of the part number when trying to determine interchangeability of Honda parts between various models.

The third string of digits (XXXXX-XXX-000) is the Classification Number. I believe it is mostly used to indicate various suppliers or improvements for the same part. Also any potential color code is tacked at the end of the classification number as digits (letters) 4 & 5.

Spark plugs between the CX's are interchangeable. The differences are the color and the shape and position of the rubber part that seals the upper end of the plug. Round plug seals work nicely with square valve covers, squares don't work with round covers but can be cut to size as the rubber seal can be moved (apply a bit of WD40).
If you need to o to a concourse, well, then you need to have the proper part. If not, nobody cares.
