Speed sensor polarity
The "Fuel System" light came on just after starting my 650T last week. The code was for the Engine speed sensor. Tested it, found one coil open circuit (no reading). As I did with my 500T a few years ago, I simply replaced the coils with units from a Toyota distributor. I thought it was a routine repair. However, this time it did NOT restart after the replacement. I remember there was a discussion about the polarity of the coils after my first post a few years ago. I wasn't sure if polarity really made a difference, however, another lesson learned today is the coils are POLARITY SENSITIVE. I must have soldered the wires backwards (not knowing + or -), and the bike would not start. Period. So I simply reversed the wires one of the coils, and she started on the first crank! I researched it and found a number of sites that confirmed that polarity matters. Apparently incorrect polarity it changes the AC voltage sine wave that the ECU and/or igniters interpret for timing. I have posted one link here, among many I found. Yep, another lesson learned. Print it and add it to the binder!!

Re: Speed sensor polarity
Yes,
I've had to reverse one of the wires on the correct coil when installing. You can either solder the correct way, or if you've already got your wires attached you can just remove the pins out of the connector and switch them. Then all is well.
