I was going to put grease fittings in my suspension but whimped out. I torn it apart cleaned, dried, and greased every mating surfice with the Honda 60 lube. Now it the link has a half inch of travel. I though I overtighted the bolts, so I loosen them with no resolve. I thinking I reversed something, but it went together with very little effort. Any suggestions.? thanks to all

I'm just seeing this. Did you put the correct amount of air back in it?

Did you download the manual to see how it is assembled? I am about 99% sure that you have it assembled wrong if it only moves a half inch.
If you haven't downloaded the shop manual it is located here. http://downloads.hondatech.info/Moto/GL/GL500-650_Silverwing_5.pdf
Don't try to download it unless you have a high speed connection as it is about 70meg.

Remember to use a bike pump or something that doesn't put out huge volume.

Air shouldn't make any difference. The shocks will travel plenty without air. Air dampers movement more.

Thanks David I just down loaded the manual. That should be a big asset. I'm going out in the garage and make it look like the picure.

I did sit on the new NT700V. I didn't like reaching to the handle bars. The saleman said I would learn to like it in a few hundred miles. I told him, I never had to do that with this GL or the CX500C I owned before. Then I left, unimpressed.

I think part of the reason for using a hand (bicycle) pump on any of the suspension parts is to prevent getting any WATER in with the air. I know that I use 3 water separators on my air compressor when I am sand blasting or painting. BillRod

Well, after some delays in completing the maintenance, I'm done. I spoke with a Honda service manager and he said with the shock assembled to the Prolink I should not be able to move it by hand. I rode it around the block yesterday and this morning a couple of times and it fine. All the squeaks are gone. I went to a bike show and ran into a company who claimed they can fit a hydraulic monoshock with adjustable damping on our bikes instead of the air. I looking for their card now. Thanks everyone

No, they say not to use a compressor because the pulses from a tankless compressor can turn the seals inside out.

About the manual ... a lot of steps are equal between the GL500 & 650, but always check the back of the manual for the 650 addendum as in some cases the steps and parts are definitely different.
Always check the back of the manual first.
