I wonder if that works on a cx but do you get lights by doing it that way?

The CX will be slightly different but I feel certain it is almost as simple.
Yes, all lights work.

Will the kill switch kill it?

Yes, the kill switch is still functional. Only the ignition switch and main fuse are bypassed.

Not only does it work on a GL500, but it works on just about any street bike from that era. I still have a "hot wire" like this in my toolbox from the mid-70's, only it has a clip on each end. We would get backed up in the Service Department in the spring and be forced to leave the customers bikes out back of the shop during the day Not a good idea to leave the keys in the ignition in that neighborhood. When closing time came, we just "clipped" them and rode them in the shop instead of looking for the Service Manager to get the actual keys for each bike.
You might want to have the registration close by if you use this set up on the street. The Po-Po tend to get excited when they see it. Ask me how I know??
