Cool [H] ICE IN TENNESSEE!
Reply Quote
Well, the odds finally caught up with the Volunteer State!  Starting yesterday about 11am we received (here in the Boro) about 4 to 5 inches of snow with almost an inch of ice, just to compact everything and make one big sheet of ice!

I realize all our northern folks (Canada, Alaska, etc.) will get a big chuckle out of our mess.  I have a little part time job at the local police department & the Boro is not too big, a little over 100,000.  I work all day on Friday & at one point early yesterday afternoon our officers were dealing with 25 wrecks and almost that many holding!  I am guessing we hit 100 wrecks yesterday.  Our big neighbor to the west, Nashville, worked over 250.  Our wrecks ranged from many fender benders to a bad multi-vehicle wreck on I-24 with injuries!  Things finally calmed down about 4:30pm after people got off the damn streets!  The paperwork coming out of this storm will take months to sort out.

For what its worth I am posting a few pictures of the area just around my home.  No way am I going anywhere until this stuff melts.  Since it is supposed to go down to 9 tonight I guess I will be home until Monday or Tuesday!  Actually I wish I could get the hack out, they are really fun to ride in snow & ice but everything is just too slick to dig them out!  You must remember old bones heal slow and next Friday is the 32nd anniversary of my 39th birthday!

This is looking at the bike parking lot (my wife calls it "patio").  What you see that looks like snow, is no longer snow, it is almost all ice!

This is the street in front of my house.  I am very thankful that we still have power.  All trees & wires are ice coated but not bad enough for a lot of limbs breaking.

This is a closer view of the bike parking lot.  Just last week I was riding the 83!  I just don't feel up to fighting the ice to pull the hack out for some fun!

I hope I have amused all our northern brothers, now we in the south share in your pain, even if for just a little while!

It's truly and odd season. We haven't had a decent snow storm here in about a month.
This photo was taken earlier in the month and since then all that remains is ice and the snowbanks. I can see grass in the back yard.

We are just up the road from Gene and got snow/iced in in the same fashion. We had a nice fluffy 4 or so inches of snow yesterday afternoon which I did not mind. Later yesterday evening it turned to sleet and shortly thereafter turned to freezing rain. Now we have a nice fluffy 4 inches of snow covered with a crusty and crunchy 1/2 to 1 inch layer of ice. We will be holed up in the house for a couple days. Pot of 15 bean and ham soup on the stove, a few movies on the DVR, a warm fire in the fireplace, and a few cases of wine to choose from will make it all bearable.

Wayne, you have my sympathy!  Hope the CX is not too damaged.  The gas can be a problem but at least everything is wet & cold right now.  Keep us posted on how you come out.

Jason, that front view of your wife's car would make a good smiley face!  It sounds like you all are going to enjoy the enforced break from work.  With 9 degrees tonight those roads are not going to be in shape for travel for a while.

BS, as I said I hoped I gave all you northern folk a chuckle!

Snow is one thing, ice in another. Ice is no fun. I'm happy to hear everyone is ok. Hoe the CX is ok. New sheds can be built but new CXs can't.

Surprised Gene still has power.

Me too, my daughter in Villa Rica said all they got was rain, no freezing at all!  Wish we had that 50 degrees.

Well the roads are cleared or clearing around here. We dug out the drive way this morning and went out for a nice Sunday Steak Lunch as a reward. I am pretty sore as there was a pretty solid 3 to 4 inches of ice covering most of my driveway. For the most part it just laughed at my shovel. I finally got it to submit with repeated chipping, banging, and scrapping. Once we got the bulk of the ice off the sun melted and cleared what was left pretty quickly. It is hovering just at or just above freezing but the sun is strong and bright today so it is helping clear things immensely.
