I got a freebe yesterday. A '79 CB750F Frame and engine. It was sitting in a neighbors back yard for years. Under my nose and I didn't even know it. I brought it home, those engines are heavy, and now I am disassembling it. It had no plugs but was under the roof overhang so it stayed dry. I would sworn it was stuck. Much to my surprise, when I started to take it appart, the internals of the engine are perfect. This motor must have less than 5k miles on it judging by the wear. The cams are perfect and the tensioners show no sign of wear at all. And the engine turns over. Hahahahahaha (Al doing a happy dance). Oh well, just wanted to share.

Now, that's the right price. Did he give a reason on why it was left un-used for so long?

You are in for a treat. Those four carbs just slip out and in with gobs of room to hook things up, and the valves are a piece of cake. After you buy the proper tool, get a bunch of extra shims for swapping, and a micrometer to check them. Don't forget a spreadsheet to keep track of the sizes. Then when the shim is out and the valve tool slips, you will be able to create new words for your wife and kids.
Have fun, they are a barrel of laughs.
P.S. Join the 750 DOHC sites. They have one for the F's and one for the Customs and other models. The guys there aren't quite as friendly as here, but you will get used to them.

I actually have a CB750F from '79. This engine was just gravy. I also have an engine from a 1980 CB750F. I was just amazed at how nice the engine was. I mean it looked like hell. It was covered with dirt, there were no plugs, it was a wreck. The frame had been cut behind the steering head, for a project that needed dual discs was the story, and the rest just sat for years. I think I just might rebuild this engine and replace the one in my current bike which has over 40k miles. I love this bike, there is fourm devoted just to these big 16v engines. It's great going down the road in a big, sexy bike, with a narrow tank and the cylinders hainging out the sides. and the smoothness!. The CX is my personal touring bike. When I go off alone I use the CX because its, well, economical. the 750 goes to cruise night in town for other people to look at.

Blue Fox,
I have to debate your statement about how friendly the guys over at the "F" site are. I have been a member over there for over a year now and without the help of the vast amount of knowledge and willingness to help I would have never got my 11OO Super Sport to where it is today. We have a huge membership and you are bound to get a few members that lurk and like to cause trouble, the majority of members jsut let it slide but many are not afraid to get in someones face if they feel the need.
We get into spirited debates about all sorts of things but in the end most of us realize that we're a big family that may not get along all the time but have respect for one another.
I have bought and sold many parts with members via the honor system and have had nothing but stand up results.
I've personally met and rode with local members and have developed good relationships with them. Many of use will be gathering in northern Wisconsin for the annual Midwest Ride this summer.
So please do not think of us as not friendly, just a bigger family with some strong personalities.

Seems like these F's are rubbing off. I'll take one in C. Could you imagine if we had the group like a DOHC bike has. We can hardly handle a few new members a week with the hi's and set up your profile and then the newb questions.
I'll stay here for now no matter how much Barry tries to convince me.

Hi, Barry, I have been a member of "F" and Custom sites for 3+ years too. I don't post much on either one these days, altho I do visit them and can enjoy the banter. My take is that a newbie over there will not feel as comfortable asking questions as here. They both have some very knowledgeable, and helpful guys, but there is a certain amount of initiation time involved before you feel as welcome as you do here. Part of this may be due to the age mix of the two sites. Generally speaking, the 750's represent more sport riders (and don't say drivers over there), while the CX/GL's are a owned by a older, but not necessarily more mature touring group. I think us older guys may be more tolerant of differing opinions, and/or lack of experience.
I would recommend all three sites to anyone owning the appropriate bike or having interest in one.

Fox, Thanks for your input. Lot's of old farts over at the F site but you may be right. However I've never noticed anything but graciousness when a noob joins in then gently joins the flow of the forum.
I think the same goes for over here on the CX forum. Best to get to know the mix of personalities and find in where you fit in best and who can take a little ribbing and who can't.
What's your ID over at the SuperSport site? I am....WisconsinF.....keeps things simple!!
