500 Exhaust questions
Reply Quote
All the auctions i have been seeing have replica megaphone mufflers for the CX500 standard and deluxe, but they note that they wont for the CX500 Custom.
Why arent the exhausts interchangeable?

are the mounting tabs different, and if so, by how much? i have no problem modifying a tab or two.........

Sounds like they cant make their mind up.

MUFFLERS THAT WILL FIT A 78-81 CX 500 DELUXE AND STANDARD. WILL NOT FIT A CUSTOM. IT WILL

That's Milwaukee Cycle for you.

All they have to do is fit the ends in. You can easily make new brackets if the stock ones don't fit.

Not that I know a dang thing about it, I will just say, it sounds like some teenage mutants writing websh*t that don't have clue.

I say if you like the mufflers, the price is right, and own a hammer and a drill, buy 'em and get 'em on there, they'll fit.

I second previous posters -  they´ll fit - worst case scenario would be some modification to the brackets.

Also - as said - "if you like them". That´s the point.

It´s up to you if you think they´ll look OK on a Custom. Custom mufflers are much shorter, coned all the way to the end baffle - and all over not as "fat" as the standard model and Deluxe mufflers.

I was running a pair of Custom model mufflers on one of my bikes for a while. Never thought they matched.

Those actually look like the ones that are on the bike now. I think someone swapped a lot of parts around, the headlight has the turn signals mounted to it, but it still has the locations to mount the turn signals further down.  As ive been taking things apart, i have noticed quite a few things that have been molested.........

Milwaukee Cycle "banned" me last year because I asked them why something cost so much in shipping. Don't even remember what it was, just remember that the shipping was about 3-4 times the amount of other similar items. They are a class act.

I remember watching side panels last year that were selling or weren't selling for $100+ with crazy shipping. I emailed them to get a list of prices for cdi, headlight, engine and other and they wanted $100 for a headlight bucket, $300 for a Cdi and $500 for an engine. Or once could just buy a running bike on craigslist for $600.

Suter's Speed Shop over in Madison is the same way on some stuff, they wanted $30 for a pair of badly rusted turn signals from a CB750. I looked at them funny and said "nevermind." On the other hand, they had pretty decent headlight mounting brackets for a very reasonable price.

What Milwaukee Cycle does do well is they have pretty low mark-ups on the aftermarket bits in-store, and they will order you stuff with a low mark-up as well.
