I've noticed quite a bit of fine, very fine, powder in my carbs. I read an article online that explains the powder to be a byproduct of gas varnish. I've been using Seafoam and was hoping it would help eliminate the problem. The article also mentioned the varnish in gel form could damage the carb bodies. Does anyone know of any good preventive measures? Is there a gasoline product that is better for these bikes? I used to use Amoco Silver in a Buick Park Avenue that had bad injectors. The Amoco fuel made a very noticeable difference in starting, but that was back in the day.
If this has been covered here, my apologies, I've missed it. Hopefully this is just from sitting over the winter. Looking forward to your input. Thanks, - Jon

What color is the powder and how long have the carbs sat?

The powder sitting on the float was pure white, the powder in the gas was more a varnish color and dried gray/white.

You should have drained the carbs.

Be wary when draining the carbs, I have found that on my dirtbike when i drain the carbs, the rubbers dry out, and the needle will leak. Best bet for seasonal storage is dump STA-BIL into the tank, and run it to get the stabil into the carbs.
on my dirtbike, i dont even le it set with the petcock off, the gas evaporates out over time, which dries the carb out, then makes everything sticky.
