Headlight adjustment problem.
Reply Quote
I'm trying to figure out how to adjust my headlight and right now I'm thinking what the hell was honda thinking. How do you adjust the vertical of the beam. Ok so part of it is my fault because I have a yamaha 1100 headlight bucket on the bike and the bucket is to big so I'm looking for suggestions on how to hold the buckets position where I aim it. It actually pushes on the wiring that goes to the idiot lights. So if I push it down it will eventually work its way back up.

This is the yamaha setup below. You can see how bracket #21 holds the headlight pretty good. So I'm looking for an idea to hold it in the right place. I was almost thinking lock washers on the bolts/turn signals that go through the hole on the ears or a textured or thick rubber washer but i'm not sure.

This is what my current setup looks like. I probably only have to adjust the headlight angle 10-15 degrees to get it right.

The bolt isn't tight enough if it is moving.

Tried to fix my problem today and got rained out. #19 on the yamaha headlight is a grommet that makes it easier for the yamaha bucket to move up and down like a floater so it can be easily adjusted at the bottom on a yamaha. But since it isn't on a yamaha it makes my life harder.

I took and cut the outside edge off with a razor blade and ground down #20 so I'm not left with a big square hole. That's where the rain started so I had to button it up and go inside. It still doesn't lock up so I need to find a large flat washer and slide it in between the ears and the headlight and hopefully that will help some. Damn rain.

What if you got 2 washers with teeth? Like how some quick release windshields use for adjustments?

Dave a bolt doesn't go through there. The turn signals do.

Now that's a good idea.

What I ended up doing after work was removed all the grommets and bushings from the headlight and put two large washer inside the bucked and cranked down on the nut with locknut under it. This didn't make it rock solid but it seems to be holding it a bit. I think I'll try to find some washers with teeth or make some to put between the ears and headlight.

It's not the brackets. I have stock ears on the bike. It's the fact that I have the yamaha turn signals and bucket on the bike and it doesn't exactly lock the headlight down solid. Had the same problem with the aftermarket ears. If it keeps screwing with me I might just drill a hole in the bracket that hols the idiot lights on and run a screw down the the headlight bucked with a small hole in it and put a nut on it to pull it down.

It did the same with these ears.
