Update on my 79 with 3110 miles

Ok so here's an update on the bike I bought this New Years. The bike had been setting since 1986. So with the help of Blue Fox and others, I have rebuilt the carbs, cleaned all of the controls and now have the bike cranking over. I have changed the oil and filter, order new Spitfires for the bike, and I will have it running tomorrow with a little luck. I still need to rebuild the front brake system and have the M/C ready and I am still working on the caliper. Speacking of which, what front caliper has two pistons that is a direct bolt on for this bike? I have what I thought were 82 CBR 900's but the caliper bracket is the wrong size. As soon as I get the bike rideable, I am going to flush the coolant and rear drive and change the oil again although most of what came out looked pretty clean. I have ordered new wheel bearings front and rear and tapered steering head bearings. I will replace these this week as well and change fork oil while I am at it. It should only need a good cleaning after that and it is filthy underneath the bodywork. I will give a shout out when she runs tomorrow. I have faith!

Congrads MX503'-- you've put a lot of work into it. Don't forget an inexpensive in-line fuel filter to protect your carbs!
See this video for a good overview of placing those steering head bearings.

MX503,

One ausome bike and I salute your commitment to keep her pristine.

My only suggestion, try to find a small shield to add to the top of your plastic nacelle. You will have to look overseas (Europe) for this, but I really think it would complete your bike. This little fairing mod was on a number of European CX500’s from that era. Well, that and dual caliper brakes (from the A model)…

What size of bracket you need for dual piston caliper. I have 2 types with different bolt patterns that attaches to the forks (both will work with the dual piston caliper).
