Does look good, but a few of the repro decals would add a lot.

Only an opinion.

Yeah, I have a few little things left to do to it...but at least i have a rideable bike this year. I still have my 79 to work on, and my xs1100 to finish up and sell, finish up my Dad's Cushman, finish up my friends cb750, start on my boat motor, new starter for the riding lawn mower, clean and adjust carb on weed-wacker, start tearing apart my 81 el camino and re-doing it inside and out, change out the base gasket on my 71 ski-doo tnt 440, the list is endless! So I've plenty of projects. Maybe i should sell some of them so i can buy a toy that's not older than i am!...(I'll be 25 this year...)

With this bike eventually i want to...

-change out the h-box and mufflers (h-box leaks somewhere...might just be bad gaskets...)
-put my spare forks on it that DON'T leak a little and have better springs (i put cheapo seals in the forks and they leak already, not as bad as the originals did, but...)
-i have a luggage rack/back rest coming in the mail
-adjust the valve clearance/cam chain tension
-spot sand and paint the little bits of rust here and there on the frame and sand and paint the center/side stands
-polish up ALL the chrome
-power-wash the crap out of it lol...
-get a small windshield
-possibly find some emblems for the side covers and tank...(donno yet...i kinda like the look of it w/out them)
-paint the radiator cover silver again (instead of corrosion and rust)...or black...donno
-start pulling engine covers and polishing away at them...
-eventually find some hard bags for it...

etc. etc. etc...there's always something i can do...

I have a bunch of good h-boxes, I just bought all the gaskets for the exhaust, the fronts are different from the backs. Your bike looks great.

May I suggest some Daytona style handlebars. Most folks that have switched to them enjoy a much more comfortable riding position. Deluxe models have a nasty reputation for "sore ass syndrome" after about 30 minutes of riding.

Looks good. Instead of painting the radiator surround, why don't you sand off the corrosion and polish the aluminum? With plenty of patience, and plenty of hours, that aluminum WILL shine like chrome.

I just got my CX500 back from the shop today - it passed certification with flying colours. I was shocked when they called - I dropped it off yesterday, and expected them to get to it "whenever." I'll be plating it Friday. I'll spend the remaining months cleaning up the chrome & making it look pretty. My main concern was getting it ready for the road. All show & no go is never a good thing. :-)

Looks good!

I did almost exactly the same work this winter, great minds you know....

The whole rebuilding the brake and master cylinder was a bit of a PITA!
I put the spring and seal in backwards for the master cylinder. Took me about 2 hours to figure out why i couldn't get pressure.

I think i installed the seat and tank about a dozen times. Every time sure it was my last, but always seemed to find something that needed adjusted, cleaned, tweaked, etc!

I just installed a small windshield, a spitfire. Found it on ebay for $59 shipping included. It's small enough that it's hardly noticable. I can post a pic of it installed to give you an idea, if you want?

You're never really "done" it seems like. I was "done" last year, and then I repainted my tank and I'm part of the Ignitec group buy and will be putting that little unit on the bike as soon as I get it, and now I'm looking at getting new saddlebags and maybe moving the rear turn signals back to help the bags fit better. That's it for my plans but I'm sure something else will happen later on down the road that I absolutely have to do. That's how it goes...

As was stated EVERYTHING metal CAN be polished out ! Radiator shield, valve covers, forks etc etc etc.

Just FYI...some people just paint over eveything and don't know this.....but it IS personal preferance on which way you go.

My radiator shield, valve covers etc etc were just as nasty and now look BETTER than new by polishing....There's a great thread on polishing in the "customization" section.

Yes I am the "polish" pusher....smile.

I'm on look #7 for my bike in 7 years. Things change and the project keeps rolling. If you think you're done you better sell it today otherwise your not done.

Hopefully if I get my bike running I plan to put on a set of hard bags that I bought off a fellow CX owner right in ym neighborhood. An older set of shoei with key and built in lights. They are white, but I plan to paint them. Then, if I am dangerous enough, after I get some potential riding done, rewire the whole bike as the wiring isn't too grand. I should probably put new tires out though heh...

All depends on my luck with the cylinder, good luck on the remainder of your project, all of you for that matter

Ride Safe,
Mike

Unless you can find a pristine wiring harness, I would advise against that. You may never get to ride it.

I hope to never sell this bike. I sold my 82 cx500 a couple years ago and have regretted it ever since.

If i get the ambition, I might polish the radiator cover. I have another one from my parts bike I could polish and then just swap them when i'm done...

I've seen the spitfire windshields, If i get one that would probably be the one I'd be looking at getting...

I have a couple spare H-box's...I've been saving up parts wherever i can get them...i have a complete motor that's in peices, and tons of spare odds and ends and tanks, and sidecovers, etc...

I rebuilt the front caliper, and actually replaced the master cylinder because the previous owner snapped off the screws that go through the lid and reservoir into the metal base...

Thanks for all the feedback/suggestions on my project...

Now to start on my 79 cx500 tearing it apart and redoing it completely frame up...(might not be done for a couple years lol...)
