Besides the Amish Rally, I have not seen any get togethers in New England. I own a newer Pontiac GTO and frequent LS1GTO.com, and we have many events. It is cool to meet up, BS and admire others machines.
Anybody interested in meeting up this spring ? I would suggest meeting in Mass, since it is central. Could meet at some burger joint or restaurant. As I am in Connecticut, I can get to most of Mass in 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Can meet for lunch on a Saturday. Of course rain sometimes puts a damper on plans, but wondering there is any interest.

There is a rally in Vermont, every two years though, so fall of 2011 for that one. I was to the one last fall and really enjoyed it. Other than that I don't know of any regular meets, but there are quite a few members here from up that way.

Pete, you are a stone's throw from me !
I believe I saw another member from Middletown CT, then Rich I think is somewhere on the other side of the river. There is a Rhode island member and of course Mass folks. Of course it would be nice to thank Cobram in person for putting together the Ignitec group buy.
I figure give this a few weeks for members to find this thread and then make plans

I may have been the Middleton guy you saw. Heh! I moved from there to New Britain last fall but only remembered to update it here last week.

I'll be going through there in mid-June, so, depending on the dates you pick, I could stop by while on my way from Delaware to Nova Scotia.

A handful of us ride to ToyMaker's Cafe in Falls Village, Ct. periodically for a 7:30 AM breakfast, usually on a Sunday. I generally post it here a few days ahead. There is always an interesting collection of bikes that show up (unrelated to us). The place gets crowded later in the morning, folks eating in the yard, etc. The place is always a hoot. An old victorian house, with an older Brit bike expert on the grill (the owner). Although all of us own or did own CX/GLs, some will ride an old Triumph or Matchless, a GW1800, or ST1100. Usually at least three of us will be on CX/GLs, once it included a CX650C, two CX650Es and a CX650T. I'm always on a twisted twin!
There are 6 of us, living east of New Haven, CT, sort of near the shore. Toymakers is 1-1/2 hrs, or a little more, depending on how the Triumph or Matchless is running. We usually manage to catch dawn on top of Lyman's Orchard ridge. It's not warm enough for me yet at 5:30 AM when I'd have to leave for the rendevous, unless I took the GL650I, and this is considered a "sport ride", so the GL stays home. But the question has been asked lately, "When?". The ride home is always warmer.

Boston has some nice events/places for meet & greets. The most I've managed to meet up with was 3 CX'ers a couple years ago for a vintage bike day. Maybe an occasional bump on this thread might lead to something?
If you're contemplating a visit to Boston, here are some basics you'll need to know. If you've ever been here, you'll get it, if not, you'll get it after you do!
The geographical center of Boston is in Roxbury. Due north of the center we find the South End. This is not to be confused with South Boston which lies directly east from the South End. North of the South End is East Boston and southwest of East Boston is the North End.
Harvard Bridge
The bridge connecting Boston and Cambridge via Massachusetts Avenue is commonly known as the Harvard Bridge. When it was built, the state offered to name the bridge for the Cambridge school that could present the best claim for the honor. Harvard submitted an essay detailing its contributions to education in America, concluding that it deserved the honor of having a bridge leading into Cambridge named for the institution. MIT did a structural analysis of the bridge and found it so full of defects that they agreed that it should be named for Harvard.
This is all true
Information on Boston and the Surrounding Areas:
There is no school on School Street, no court on Court Street, no dock on Dock Square, and no water on Water Street. Back Bay Boston streets are in alphabetical awddah: Arlington , Berkeley, Clarendon, Dartmouth, etc. So are South Boston streets: A, B, C, D, etc. If the streets are named after trees (e.g. Walnut, Chestnut, Cedar), you are on Beacon Hill. If they are named after poets, you are in Wellesley.
Massachusetts Avenue is Mass Ave. Commonwealth Avenue is Comm Ave. South Boston is Southie. The South End is the South End. East Boston is Eastie. The North End is east of the former West End. The West End and Scully Square are no more; a guy named Rappaport got rid of them one night. Roxbury is The Burree, Jamaica Plain is J.P.
How to say these Massachusetts city names correctly (Say it wrong and be shunned). Worcester : Wuhsta (or Wistah) Gloucester : Glawsta Leicester: Lesta Woburn: Woobun Dedham : Dead-um Revere: Re -vee-ah Quincy: Quinzee Tewksbury : Tooks ber ry Leominster : Le-min-sta Peabody: Pee-ba-dee Waltham : Walth-ham Chatham: Chaddum Samoset: Sam-oh-set or Sum-aw-set, but nevah Summerset!
Definitions:
Frappes are made with ice cream; milkshakes are not. If it is carbonated and flavored, it is tonic. Soda means CLUB SODA. Pop refers to DAD. When we want Tonic WATER, we will ask for TONIC WATER. The smallest beer is a pint.
Scrod is whatever they tell you it is, usually fish. If you paid more than $7/pound, you got scrod. It is not a water fountain; it is a bubblah. It is not a trashcan; it is a barrel. It is not a spucky, a hero, or a grinder; it is a sub. It is not a shopping caht; it is a carriage. It is not a purse; it is a pockabook.
They are not franks; they are haht dahgs; franks are money used in Switzahland.
Police do not drive patrol units or black and whites; they drive a crewza. If you take the bus, your on the looza crooza. It is not a rubber band; it is an elastic. It is not a traffic circle, it is a rotary. "Going to the islands" means going to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket.
The Sox = The Red Sox
The Cs = The Celtics The Bs = The Bruins The Pats =The Patriots
Things not to do:
Do not pahk your cah in Hahvid Yahd. They will tow it to Meffa (Medford ) or Summahville (Somerville) . Do not wear orange in Southie on St. Patrick's Day.
Things you should know:
There are two State Houses, two City Halls, two courthouses, and two Hancock buildings (one is very old; one is relatively new). The colored lights on top the old Hancock tell the weatha: "Solid blue, clear view." "Flashing blue, clouds due." "Solid red, rain ahead." "Flashing red, snow instead." (except in summer, flashing red means the Red Sox game was rained out!
I've lived here most of my life, and still do not know what the hell is going on with this one: Route 128 South is I-95 south. It is also I-93 north.
The underground train is not a subway. It is the T, and it does not run all night (fah chrysakes, this ain't Noo Yawk). Order the cold tea in China Town after 2:00 am (last call); you will get a kettle full of beer.
Bostonians: think that it is their God-given right to cut off someone in traffic. Bostonians: think that there are only 25 letters in the alphabet (no Rs, except in idear. Bostonians: think that three straight days of 90+ temperatures is a heat wave. Bostonians: refer to six inches of snow as a dusting. Bostonians: always bang a left as soon as the light turns green, and oncoming traffic always expects it.. Bostonians: believe that using your turn signal is a sign of weakness. Bostonians: think that 63 degree ocean water is warm. Bostonians: think Rhode Island accents are annoying.

Ha! Great fun reading that Cobram, thanks. Reminded me of my first visit to Boston many years ago. When I ordered a milk shake, the waitress shook up a half pint container of milk and gave it to me. WTF??? Now I know... order a frappe!

Nice to be here, Rich! I don't post much in the winter months... it hurts too much.
But seriously folks! I am getting my bike back on the road very soon -- it wintered at my parents' garage about an hour north, and hopefully I can fetch it this coming weekend. I was gonna do it Saturday but pussed out due to 25deg weather.

Been busy on the weekends, but I still think it would be fun to meet up.
I see interest in a Western Mass meet up.
Somewhere mid Mass would be a good central New England location.
Any interest ?

Hi Bill,
As I mentioned earlier in this post, I'll be moving my newly-acquired GL650 from Delaware to Nova Scotia towards the end of this coming week--will probably leave Delaware Friday June 18, but maybe a day sooner. Just depends. Will take the weekend to get back to Nova Scotia.
SO, I could rendezvous somewhere in New England Saturday or Sunday...hope to be in Maine by Sunday, though. I'm a bit looser on the schedule for this leg, though. Don't even have my motels booked this time! (See my California to Delaware missive in March).
Saturday June 19th somewhere in Mass? I have a firefighter friend in Gloucester, where I MIGHT stay Friday or Saturday night. If anyone has any desire to go that far East, there's an incredible seafood place which is called (I think) The Causeway.
Ciao for now,
Dan

Cobram, all I can say is, after having one leg in Boston for almost 40 years, some further travels, and then threw in the anka in New Hampsha, you nailed it. Only thing I can add for those who may venture up here, is be prepared to pay a nominal egg for a good meal, whether it's schrod or lobsta, and unlike out in flyover land, a man can get away with having PSDS. We seldom hear of Continental Mark/Mach III's or Mustang Mach/Mark I's any more, so the random and interchangeable spelling of those names in want ads is no longer a problem. A long time ago I commented to a local that people didn't even understand EACH OTHER up here and he couldn't understand why it was a problem, he explained it to me clearly that m-a-c-h is pronounced 'mock', while m-a-r-k was pronounced 'mock'. I did have a moment last week when I felt like I finally belonged here, (even though my accent survives with suspiciously 'rebel' nuances) when I ordered a FRAP at McDonalds. The young lady advised me it was a FRAP-PAY. I wonder how long it took McDonalds to teach the local help how to pronounce it right after a lifetime of pronouncing it wrong? And what really is McD selling? I have no idea, but it tasted OK.

"FRAP-PAY" indeed, that's what you get for living so close to those French Canadians.
I once took some Midwest friends to Durgin Park (think very surly waitress's) as part of the "tourist thang", and his wife asks if they have milkshakes. Almost like the post above, the waitress comes back with glass of milk for the wife, then proceeds to sit on her husbands lap and shake her money maker, "there's ya milk shake, honey." I don't think I've ever tipped anyone that much before, ever.
