I got a reply from him: "The last one sold by Mike's Cycle Salvage in Salem for $1,600; that was seven months ago, and there's not another one to be had, to my knowledge. It appears someone who has very little mechanical or turbo knowledge, has put orange or copper Permatex sealant on the exhaust flange. That's a no no!!! How much of that stuff oozed out during assembly and found it's way into the turbine, or maybe the bearing or oil supply? Maybe it is there to cover a crack in the housing? Your guess is as good as mine. I could be wrong, and it could be fine. I would just rebuild my turbo if I ever had a problem. Just my take on the unit.............    Report

It might command that price if it were new in the box.  Who would possibly want to pay that much for a pulled part?  That's like this auction for the tiny "Turbo" headlight bonnet: ebay #   200210515062 It's worn, scratched, "works", whatever that means (it just sits there!) and thay want $300 for it.  Absolutely nutty.  Everyone seems to think that if its a turbo part it's gold.    Report

Well it does bring up the perfect retirement plan for all of us turbo owners--just THINK how much the total take would be if we sold each part of our bikes separately?! I'm guessing about $40K!!
