Fuel pump needed for 650T
|
|
|
|

Hi, new to the forums - they look good.
My fuel pump in my 650 Turbo died over the winter. I went to start it yesterday and it would not fire up. Troubleshooting found that the fuel pump is the problem. I hooked the fuel pump terminals up to a battery - nothing. Let brake cleaner sit in it for 4hrs - nothing.
So, anyone know where I can get a replacement one or equivalent fuel pump? I'm most concerned with the flow and the bolt that attaches to the fuel pump from the stock unit.
Thanks!

Do as suggested in my note...
Place vertical on bench, wrap outlet hose barb around inlet on pump. Fill with brake cleaner. Let sit 4-8 hours... If not loose, tap on it with a rubber mallet.
If still nothing....Sell the bike to me for scrap... :)

If the fix does not work, and the 650T pump is the same as the 500T. You can replace it with the fuel pump from a 1985 Honda Accord (with pump not in tank), it is a direct replacement for about $100 - the diameter is the same and it comes with all the connectors that you need.

You want another one? :)
Do you mean a Honda part # or one from Autozone? The autozone one is an Airtek and doesn't look like it quite matches up.

I concur with Pete. Many fuel pumps have simply corroded and "froze up". They can usually be unfrozen by soaking and tapping (I've always used a rawhide mallet). If you need a pump, many Honda Civics/Accords/Preludes from the mid 80's (fuel injected, in line pump, NOT in-tank). Here are a few part numbers: Walbro part# 10948. Hella makes a pump for the '86 Prelude SI model, but the part numbers vary on different web sites; approx $180.
Here is the Carter unit on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-86-HONDA-PRELUDE-2.0-SI-Fuel-Pump-CARTER-P70199_W0QQitemZ190385751975QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20100404?IMSfp=TL100404002017r38002

The Carter model #P70199 was what I used. It fits into the pump mounting bracket without any modifications, everything you need is in the box with the pump. The pump was $104 and in stock at a local auto parts store.
I'm not sure how loud the stock pump is but I can hear this one if I'm listening for it.

I picked up an Airtek E8000 but it is not the same diameter as the stock (about 1/2" smaller). May have to retrofit it somehow.

That is the correct pump... Just shim the holder with a piece of rubber....

Ok, whew. Should hooking it up to a Battery Tender be enough juice to let me test it or should I hook it up to the battery directly?
