I am located in joliet IL, and there is a 1979 cx500 that is for sale. it is complete but has no title or keys. I have the VIN and going to run it by my local police department to make sure it isnt stolen. here is the good part. I was able to get her down to 100.00. i have a picture of it, and let me tell you wow! its clean and complete. has backrest, deluxe tank, and crash bars. does anyone want to go in on it with me? Are you serious?  For $100 you need a partner?  I'm in if it still has a decent original exhaust, carbs and signals, you can have the rest. 1978 CX500 - I live on a one-way street that's also a dead end. What a deal.  but by the you all slice the pie up there may not be any pie left. I suggest buying the bike then count the guys who want in on the deal.  Divide that number by 100.00.  Then find out who wants what.  Forget about market value of the parts.  What ever the figure was that was divided by 100. thats the price plus shipping.  Simple. Argh!  You part out that bike and "ju lookin fo trouble ma nk."  That's WAY too nice to part.  You didn't mention it was a Custom, thought it was a Standard.  Forget the paperwork, if you snooze you may lose, get the bike home first, then check the paperwork.  Take 2 minutes and punch the Vin into CarFax, if it's reported stolen it'll pop right up, BTDT. Thanks very much for the offer boyscout, but I'm looking for 2-ways off a standard for experimentin'.  I need to adapt my bike to 4-way flashers and running lights.  I was going to start a thread on it, the easiest route may be one of the numerous LED kits on FleaBay where all you have to do is snake a wire into the housing.  Maybe a strobe, but I think those are illegal in most places except for emergency vehicles. 1978 CX500 - I live on a one-way street that's also a dead end. Buy it. if you cant get a title, strip it. if you can get a title, keep it and ride it, or sell it as a whole. if you flipped it for 500, that would be an insanely good deal for someone, and you would make about 350 after the titlework. 80 CX 500 2000 CR 250 DIRT BIKE!!!!!!!!!!    Report

Update.... tank went to powder lookd awsome after sandblasting then caught fire in the oven for pre bake. Now I have to remove the old burnt up liner re grind and get the rust out of the innards. All because a little gas bubbled the finish. Bad spelling and shot gun puncuation.    Report

Any idea what kind of sealer was used in the tank?  I had no idea they were so vulnerable to combustion under heat.  The fumes probably aren't that great to breath in either.  Might be a good idea to dip clean tanks that have had sealer applied to them before any over time.  I wonder if that stuff even comes off in a dip tank?  1978 CX500 - I live on a one-way street that's also a dead end.
