I'm in Alaska where we don't have a helmet law, on the warm sunny days when I am just cruising around I don't wear a helmet, if its windy or cold I bring a cheap 3/4 that I picked up at a Yamaha shop that I bought but its too big, it will fit when I wear my heavy insulated coveralls with the hood though, the name escapes me. The faceplate doesn't want to stay down in a good wind though, I hate it. But I bought a new Hawk modular a couple of days ago cause I wear glasses. So far, the silver one is cooler as expected, but I don't think the large scoops are much help. I can say the damn large top vents make the helmet have more wind noise now and keep the "chin" from raising up as far as my first one did. Not bad enough to have me buy a new helmet early, but I will be looking for a different vent system. I do like my Zeus helmet very much. and for Vegas, Silver is worth it. But if you are looking for a good cheap modular helmet, I can recommend a Zeus 508w... but don't get one with the large vents. not worth the noise. Peace & Light >^..^< .......... AGV.. a size larger than I should, so I wear a knit head beanie type thing to fill the void.  It is comfortable, but assuredly, not the best.  Two of the helmets came with my bike when I bought it 7 yrs ago.  I have no idea where the small one is. Yes, the knit cap goes on my head first. Modern DOT and ECE rated helmets are actually considerably safer. Z1R's little $50.00 helmet outperformed Scorpion, Arai, Icon, AGV, Suomi to name a few. Snell 2010 FINALLY changed their standards to be closer to ECE, so now they should be acceptable, but they are 10 years behind Z1R's research and development. I wear a HJC IS-16 because I like the retractable sunshield, but it's a very noisy helmet.  I replaced the visor this spring... I think I need to put the old one back on to see if it's less noisy or not.  I wear ear plugs, but the wind is still really loud.  Maybe I just need to slow down? My CX with the Vetter is far better than the Star 1300 in terms of wind protection, I still have a trick or two to work with trying to stop the buffeting on the Star, either I install some lower deflectors or another lexan insert around the headlight or go with the Harley fairing. The stock windshield on the Star 1300 from the factory had the wrong angle, I have angled it back, its better but as I said its not as good as the 30 year old CX with a Vetter Vindicator fairing. Simple all silver (with small logo) HJC Kevlar as my main helmet, have two others but they're at work, I use them if I take on a passenger for a lunch run. Of course I still haven't ridden yet this season, looks like it will be 2 - 3 weeks longer until I'm strong enough from all my cancer treatments before I can "un-winterize" the bike and get a few hours in. I did get a light smoked face shield for it, and figured that I could also clip on the sunglasses that fit my prescription glasses if I needed more of that. My Hawk modular came in the mail a couple of days ago, its a bit bulky but fairly light, a bit clunky and not very smooth operating the parts up and down, I may give it to my son and get a Scorpion Exo-100 half helmet. HJC CL-15 Mutant helmet I got a great deal on it through Motorcycle Superstore ($79 on sale).  It's DOT and Snell 2005 certified.  I have another HJC helmet that is open face, so I already knew how they fit when I bought this one online.  I'm very happy with it, it has good airflow and fits really well.  You can get all of the parts to it if they break or wear out and the parts are fairly inexpensive. 1980 CX500 D (cafe project bike) Ridge Manor, FL    Report

The shop I go to hooked me up with a DOT sticker...so when I die I can sue them for misleading me. But, when I make my way across one of the bridges to Pennsylvania or Delaware, I rip that thing off my head as fast as possible. It's a KBC Magnum I bought it from this seller on ebay for $47 shipped and they even threw in a tshirt. Still had the showroom tag on it showing $189.99 It fits great and I even wired in another set of helmet speakers. The bike is gone, but the helmet is still good. Not the lightest, not the quietest, not the coolest, but I smile wide when the bugs bounce off the helmet instead of burying themselves in my beard!    Report

I was using firefox, and came 3 seconds from winning another similar helmet last night that was just a full face, and it went for $8.99.
