NEWBIE HERE : Carburetor float bowl busted, could it be a source of poor performance?

the 1981 cx500D was running crappy and leaking gas after sitting a long time at a rundown shop, so it was taken to a (slightly) more reputable shop, the guy sayd it ran fine except the classic cam problem(how does the cam have anything to do wit leaking gas out the overflow?). i decided not to fix the cam, one day it ran like crazy and then died, so i thought i blew it up. turns out i was just running out of gas and it leaned out. i repainted it and replaced the tach. cable, and got a good look at the cam, NO PROBLEMS THERE and it looks great. sitting still it runs great from idle to full throttle, but, under load, i can only give it 1/8 throttle or it bogs out. and it is leaking gas more and more. i tore the carbs down myself cause i ave no good shops around here and im a decent mechanic. i found very clean carbs but the left side float bowl has a tube pressed in it to control overflow, well the tube had been busted off and one of the "fine mechanics of northern NY" had tried to patch it up with RTV at the bottom so that gas was allowed to leak out all the time instead of filling the float bowl. could this be the root of all my issues? as far as leaking out te overflow, and only running up to 1/8 throttle and right cylinder running fine while left cylinder runs just barely?

First off, you posted this in the Turbo Forum. The Turbos are fuel injected, so these guys don't care a wit about carbs.
Second, if the fuel in the left carb isn't filling the bowl, it won't reach the jets to adequately feed that cylinder, especially under load. Find a replacement for that bowl, or replace the overflow tube following this procedure. (Sorry, the photos don't link anymore.)

Likewise some of the non-turbo people never come in here, so you will probably have better luck with your posts in a different area. No problem, just part of the learning curve. Feel free to browse the threads in this section though and learn all about the Turbos!

There was a guy trying to sell a 500 turbo on ebay last year up in the Watertown, NY area (not sure which area of the Canada/NY border you meant).
