A minor mishap
Reply Quote
We had our HTTA rally last weekend at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground in Cruso, NC. What a great place it was, nestled into the Blue Ridge range. I never realized the mountains to the south of us were so much more beautiful than in my area.

On the way down, I must have been daydreaming or not looking where I should have been looking and drifted off the right side of the Parkway and into one of those concrete ditches and dumped my Suzuki.

Of course I didn't get out of it without some minor injury, luckily I landed in a bed of old leaves and pushed said leaves a couple feet with my face. So, I got a little leaf rash that has pretty much disappeared by now, and a bruised hip, probably from something in my pants pocket, getting better too.

The Suzuki suffered some cosmetic damage also: Windshield, Speedometer pod, Clutch lever, and left turn signal. The good thing, I was able, with Steve's (and a kind passerby) help, to toss the parts I wanted to keep into my saddle bags and continue the weekend. All's well that ends well. Thanks to riding buddies It was really great seeing everyone again.

Phil,

I am glad to hear that you are basically okay and mostly your pride was hurt.

That's the joy of not paying attention or the best attention. I noticed the other day that on the bike I'm so focused about what's going on around me because I have to but when using my truck later that day it seemed like I was floating between the lines.

Take care of what's left of the leaf rash.

Phil, let me tell you what you meant to say......."my looks were improved by my minor mishap"  I agree, the damage, though minor, was really an improvement.  Now just so the rest of you know I too, had a little mishap on the way to the Blue Ridge.  The only time Glenn let me lead during our Friday ride to camp I misjudged pulling into a parking space and bounced the front tire off a parking block, lost my balance and fell over.  However, I was sharp enough to cushion the bike with my left leg, thereby preventing damage to the fairing.  I did break the ball off the clutch lever and put some scratches on the left saddlebag.  Glenn was a hero and with the aid of a bystander lifted the bike off my leg.  Of course, that was after he bounced his front tire off my helmet.  He seemed to be a little upset that I was so inconsiderate as to stick my head under his tire when he was just parking his bike!  Anyway Glenn and several folks in the restaurant got a good laugh at my expense.  I hope even old dogs can learn from mishaps such as these!  The trip was a lot of fun, it was good to see old friends again and I expect to return to the Blue Ridge Motorcycle campground.

Kudos to TheCheese and DaveF for getting Phil's bike put back together.  While Phil was nursing his wounds they Put the signal  lights back to working and fixed the starter button so he no longer had to bump start.

Gene, the pictures link shows an empty album.

Leaf rash, sounds strange. Better than road rash, that's for sure.

The owner of the campground was a very nice guy. Even loaned us his moto jack for the tech section. "How to change an idiot's rear tire." My tire to be exact.

We had some strange stuff going on at this rally. I will not forget it for a long time.

Phil,
It sounds like you took and angel with you on the trip. That pile of leaves could have been a pile of rocks.
Glad to hear it was leaf rash only.

Damn Keith, are you trying to take all the fun out of it?

Tony, counting Charles & his girl there were 8 of us.  BTW I had not seen Charles in years, he looked like he had been through one of those extreme makeovers and he was looking great!  I'm surprised he only had one girl with him.
