Go to your local harley dealer. I did this last week and had my pick of several sets of new mufflers. in my case they were $20.00 bucks a set.

Hey WIlly,..I really like the look of the side cut muffler, Nice Job! How does it sound?

I would consider doing this mod, However, my Interstate is a nice low mile unmolested and all original so I am having a hard time removing perfectly good stock mufflers to install the Harley ones,..And I am a Hot Rod Exhaust kida guy,,, still on the fence I guess,..

I just completed the same. I found some take offs from a dyna. I wraped the end with some metal flashing from a roofing project wraped it 2x. Used a bit of tape to hold it in place and clamp it. One thing I did was rotate the the rear foot peg/muffler mount to lower the trailing edge of the mufflers. Added a set of saddle bags from TSC only $20. The larger set are <$30.00

Darrin,

yflyer was the forum member that had the side cut mufflers, mine are just regular straight end ones.  That said, i think they sound fine.  Mine are a little louder and a little deeper than the stock pipes.  I decided to put the Harley mufflers on because i didn't  like the look of the stock, trumpet set.  The performance and sound improvement were just an added plus.

Best,

you guys that go to harley shops and ask for cans... do you ask to speak to someone in the parts department or in the shop.  i guess i'd feel kinda dumb walking to the front desk in the local harley shop and asking if they had any sportster mufflers laying around.

Talked to the HD Parts Manager and he showed me "many" good used parts removed from HD bikes during upgrades. The parts were not in their inventory and was able to pay cash for a "good" deal!
