Very very fine 82 GL500 Interstate

I just came into possession of an 82 that is so fine I could almost say 'time capsule'. However that would be a disservice, because that would imply it has no miles, and can't be ridden due to crusty carburetors and cracked tires. This one was a Shriners parade bike, and I didn't realize this, but the shrine owned them and apparently stored them, not the drill team members. It truly looks like it has never spent a day under the sun, and never spent a night in the rain. The paint and pin striping are perfect, the aluminum under the windshield is not wavy like others of mine have been, and the lettering on the dash lights is good. Even the red plastic kill switch looks like new, and it was never painted red like I've done on a couple of bikes where it was faded and wouldn't polish out. The previous owner, a Shriner, replaced the clutch, due to that parade use. But it runs fantastic. 12,000 miles showing. I've got another one of these bikes, a good rider but slightly faded. While I'd love to keep the fancy one, I have a daughter to marry off this fall, in a pinch as usual, and I need to make a buck, not accumulate more bikes. If any of these have ever been worth over $2000 it's this one. Actually, didn't the 900 mile one go for over $3500 on eBay? I know, I'll get a reputation as a dealer, which I'm not, but I've just developed some knowledge and appreciation of these bikes, and I enjoy tinkering and polishing. Anybody interested?
Oh, PS, it's not the one in my icon, that black one I sold a couple of years ago for over $1900 on eBay. This one isn't on eBay, it's nicer, and it's Candy Muse Red. Thanks,
Don

Since its so nice, and a premium price, I would post alot of detailed quality pics to prove it.
We all know the nooks and crannys to look at to determine if its exceptional.

Went for $1790 on eBay. Another bidder said afterward he bid way more with 4 minutes to go, and it didn't take his bid. Too much confusion at the end if others also hang out waiting to push the button at the last minute. Word to the wise: put your max bid in early, because proxy bidding doesn't spend all your money immediately, just enough of it to beat the guy who was ahead of you.

Don, I talked to you via phone tag about this bike. I surely hated to pass on it and afterwards wished i wouldn't have, sure was a great machine. Still lookin for a GL500 clean so if you hear of one pass it on. Happy motoring Don.
I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it

My 'rider' will have to go, this fall, because my youngest daughter is getting married, big expenses. NOt as slick, and 31K miles, but new brakes and it does run good. Maybe $1300.

I can tell you from personal experience that Don is a straight up guy, as I bought the bike pictured in his avatar, and had it shipped from New Hampshire to NW Nebraska. He had a bunch of detailed quality pics in the eBay listing, and answered my questions till I'm sure he was blue in the face. I have absolutely no regrets in the way my deal with him turned out, the bike is better than described, and I looked for months at all variations of CX and GL Honda's before I settled on his. So if you're looking for a premium quality GL500I that you can just get on and ride, I'm sure you'd be plumb happy with anything he might have for sale!!
