I would use closed cell foam, it behaves better outdoors. You can find it anywhere on the Internet and it's inexpensive. As for the cover I would use vinyl. Vinyl looks like leather and is much much more weather resistant.

I used two one inch thick layers of neoprene foam glued together. Then topped it with one half inch of memory foam. It's firm but comfortable and not too costly. The layering works better than a single two inch thick piece in my opinion it builds some tension between the layers and makes it firmer.
Contact cement worked well. I had it covered in marine grade vinyl.

I used some of that camping mat material for the base layer and then some high density foam for the top layer, it took a little while to wear in but it's great now. The main thing was to shape it so it didn't put any pressure on the inner thighs.

Then some material designed for going behind retaining walls, its thin and I figured it wouldn't rot.

I then covered it in outdoor vinyl

I'm curious but I'll make my statement first.
Cx500 cafe bikes and others always seem to look good in the front and crap in the rear.
What bugs me is every time i see someone build a seat it always shows the crappy frame section, wire ties and other ugly things. Why not extend it 2 more inches down and shape it with the frame. That's my only problem/question.

I hate the lines of the frame and dont want the seat to follow it, I'll hide mine eventually with some black out panels but I didn't want the seat to follow the frame line.
I think mine looks great from the rear but I did build it for me so I guess that's all that matters

Sure it does. The only problem I have with it is between the shock mount and the tail of the tank.
