Need Help Carburetor Rebuild
Reply Quote
I am rebuilding a set of carbs on a 1982 cx500. I have cleaned both carb bodies with carb dip and an ultrasonic cleaner. I also removed all jets and emulsion tubes.

However, I am having difficulty removing one of the main jet emulsion tubes. Even after all efforts for cleaning. Now I am afraid I will have to drill it out to ensure proper cleaning. I was having sputtering problems at low rpm.

Where can I find a new main jet emulsion tube that I can get ASAP? Can I just continue rebuilding the carbs after using an ultrasonic cleaner for over an hour? It is my first time rebuilding carbs and this has already taken me almost a week to figure out. I don't want to waste another week waiting for such a small part.

Any guidance would be deeply appreciated.

Don't buy cheap easy outs or they will break and you will have lots of grief.

Larry does not use easy outs to take the main emulsion tubes out, he uses them to remove the pressed in idle jets. An easy out most likely will break if you try it on the main jet.

edit;
  Sorry if I was a bit abrupt , but I wanted to post in a hurry in case the original poster was considering using an easy out and hoped to save him some grief.
 The following is an excerpt from Larry's post at the Naked Gold Wing forum;

By the way. I forgot to mention above that when I put the easy out in the low jet to pull it out, the area of the jet that it presses into is not part of the fuel metering system for that jet. That's down in the middle of the jet. The reason the easy out works is because the outside of the jet has an air gap around it and it does not press directly against the aluminum of the body that it sits in. If it did, when you press in the easy out it would flare out the top and lock it into the body making it tighter. That's how you break off extractors. Like trying to remove a stuck main emulsion tube. I'll bet you have seen that more than once. The brass is too soft to hold it's shape when you try this. Anyway, the low jet has two tapered sections that hold it in place down around the emulsion tube portion of the jet. After it's cleaned out all that's needed to reinstall it is a flat nosed punch as wide as the jets body, and a few taps of a small hammer.

Got in touch with Larry. He's has given me a bunch of good advice. the main jet emulsion tube should be fine since I used an ultrasonic cleaner. I am going to reassemble and put them back on the bike. If I have any issues, he will help me get another tube.
