CX500 Chopper, "Insert Name Here"

well, its been about 3 years since i got the beast and shes almost ready to hit the road again. i first started off with this 1982 CX500 Custom that had been wrecked by my neighbor. Beyond reasonable repair, he decided to get rid of it so i took it off his hands.

after a few years of chilaxin in the garage up north while the family moved, i finally got it down to florida so i could work on it. after a few months work, heres how she looks...

Oh the secret is you have to use the image code and not the page link. Says IMG at the beginning. All I did was paste it in the right places.

What shock did you put on the bike and how did you do it? Anything special?

ah, i tried an html link with "<img src="yadayadayada">" to no avail in the test forum. anywho, the shock is from an '82 gl, along with the front engine cover, clutch, and entire front end. picked it up for $200, fixed up my bike, and sold the remainder of the gl (minus the frame which i still have) to joel in michigan. as for the mounts, i just cut, bent, and drilled some 3/16" flat stock for the swingarm mount and 5/16" flatstock for the top mount/seat mount. i can attach some more detailed pictures tomorrow if youre interested. its a good suspension rate even without air in the shock and forks.

it looks good but is also vulnerable to attack. ill probably do some sort of aluminum guards for it. thats actually a custom built radiator. originally a gl rad, it didnt match up with the cx, so i decided to bring out the torces, unsolder the side mounts from both and swap em, and i also made and soldered in a new inlet pipe on the left side. works like a charm. surprisingly enough, doing that radiator work wasnt as hard as expected, just heat and flow.

I think you can modify yours, just plan it out.
I'd start by striping the body work off so you can see the structural components. Then plan out what you'd like to do. You can post your thoughts on the site and people will be able to help you. Just putting a highlighted line on a naked GL isn't enough for people to help you.
Are you going to do the fab and welding yourself? If not, you will need to think through how you will do this, all at once or in stages. In any case, you may need to strip the entire frame down so it is easier all the way around. If you strip it down, bag and lable all the components. Hopefully you will have a place to do all this work.
If you do not have a place to do this, and you do not have the tools and skills to do the mods, this might not be a good project for you. I don't think you'd like to start cutting without a good way to complete the project. It just becomes a parts bike. Worse yet, you mod the bike in such a way you have a catastrophic failure at speed...

well said. to add to that, the frame of the gl is a bit different from the cx. for example, it has (i believe) 3 backbone tubes as opposed to one large one on the cx. that being said, you could modify the gl frame in a similar fashion without too much of a problem.

"Insert Name Here" "Wire Barf" due to the mass of unused wires and connectors messing up the look of the front end. Or "Skunkworks" due to the lack of rear fender and the ultimate stain on the back of your t-shirt. ; )
Too bad you have to sell it. I think you were on to something. Rusty

YZ 250 Are you trying to sell the bike in Titusville or Florida? If you are in Titusville I might have to check it out. I need some parts but a running bike with title is way better than a parts bike. It's a little out of my price range but might be worth the headaches if I could only find a garage to store my bikes instead of my yard. would you be interested in an xbox 360 60gig with 10 games and 3 controllers for a discount on the trade price? That is about the only trade worthy thing that I would want to sacrifice...

My Bike is in pieces in the yard/basement right now waiting for my carbs to get done. My girlfriend and her mom would kill me if I brought home another bike [your listing disappeared on craigslist also]. Ireally could go for a bike ride but my tank is full of rust, the carbs are at the shop and i think my stator is bad I don't have the $$$ sorry man
