07-03-2010, 8:37 PM BrokenLegGuy Joined on 07-04-2010 Pitcher, NY Posts 12 1979 CX500 Custom engine "tick"? I bought the bike and heard a "ticking" sound. I was told it was normal but I just wanted to confirm with people who know more about this bike model than I do. I posted this same question here with a video of the engine running: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=73430.0 The bike seems to sound the same as the other member's bike but I'm not 100%. As long as the "tick" is normal I'm good with the way it sounds. Just don't want to be stranded on my way to work because of this issue. At that mileage it is unlikely to be the Cam chain but there's definitely a quite a sound there.Very hard to tell from recordings as different mics can exaggerate some sounds and mask others. I understand that! I plan on doing all of my own work for that reason. Some people I talked to said that drilling 1/2 inch holes in the end of the exhaust will take that "tick" away. That doesn't sound like clutch noise....sounds more like engine noise, either valves or cam chain.....also check the fan at the front of the bike cooling the radiator, they get old, brittle and can cause noise and/or damage. It keeps pace with the engine rpms. *edit* The noise seems to be coming from the front of the engine... But I can't pin point where it's coming from. Well, I had the bike for 4 days and someone has already knocked my bike over stood it back up and left... Now the throttle sticks, tank has a couple of dents in it, engine guard is all scrapped up, side cover all scratched up, and right side tail light is cracked with a dime sized hole in it... I hope that the parking lot cameras turn up something and I'm going to push to get the person charged with a hit and run. Some people have no respect for others property. Anyways, yeah the fairing is going up for sale as well as the stock bars and the engine guard... ( the cylinder guards were on the bike when it was knocked over) I haven't had the chance to post any of the parts cause my wife went into labor and we had our son on Thursday.
