Replacement headlights?
Reply Quote
The headlight on my CX has a replaceable bulb that inserts into the lens thing.  I was  wondering if you can buy like Silverstar bulbs for it?  Anyone know the part number of the replacement?  The local Walmart doesn't have much in the way of references for what would fit and I don't want to have to take my bike apart in the parking lot to take the bulb in and find something that fits.  It's not burned out, but it could be brighter.

With the replacement element, you can certainly get a brighter element, and just pop that in. That would be your best way to go. There are places that have the 'ultra brites' and such. I'm sure you'd be happy with their brightness.

The stock bulbs are H4 type.I use Xenon direct replacements.

On unlit/Badly lit roads at night they are superb.

No you look for H4 bulbs. There are two common connector types used on Automotive headlights the H4 and the H1.

I had some burned out bulbs for the CX650 housing, where the bulb has two tabs and becomes part of the adjusting assembly.  I luckily found a Hella H4 bulb which had an aluminum ring to hold the halogen bulb in place.

I cut up one of the old 650 incandescent bulbs and JB Welded the H4 bulbholder in place.  In retrospect, it would be easier to cut a ring off the back of the H4 bulb, about 1/2" outside of the aluminum bulbholder and then cut only enough from the incandescent bulb to allow the halogen bulb to slip in.  You could then lap the two pieces together and glue them that way.

Here's my cheesy job.  It has stayed together for almost a year.

I did similar on a moped headlight that the replacement costed around $50. Well worth it.
