a while ago i put up a post about making my own side covers. i finally got them closer to being finished today. if anyone is interested in them i posted them on my blog which is linked below. i call them nerf side covers because instead of using glass mat to fiberglass them i covered them in this plushy carpet i had at work and poured resin and hardener on them. take a look and tell me what you think.

So according to your blog, you exploded the gas tank by taking a torch to it to remove dents? Rusty

technically I didn't, a guy I work with did. I already posted that on another post here. Yeah not my proudest moment but I didn't like the look of the original tank any ways. I would have much rather sold it than thrown it away though.
EDIT: I still have'nt gotten any comments on how the cover looks. must be that bad huh?

thank you for the honesty. like i said they aren't fully sanded down. when they are done i hope they will be smooth as glass. they are pretty big and the only da pads we have at work are like 220 grit. not enough to really get in there and get it smoothed out. once they are finished and installed I hope it ends up looking pretty good.

sounds good. the bike has to actually run first though. still having carb problems and gotta redo the front fork seals. the front end is so soft its unsafe to ride. good news is the list is alot shorter than it was a month ago. lights are working and all and no rear end leaks. just fuel and coolant leaks and the aformentioned forks. if i ever get a hair and ride to vegas i'll look you up on a fuel and piss stop in kingman

this morning after sanding it down with 80 grit and going back over with 245 and then 400 it turned out like dull glass. smooth but not shiny. the cool thing is its flexible. in my industry there is a product called filon. its basically fiberglass laminated to a thin piece of cardboard. its what they use to build the walls in motor homes. this stuff is almost exactly like that. i don't know if thats a good thing. i didn't want alot of rigidity because if i dropped the bike or anything like that it would shatter. this flexs almot and inch. kinda cool i guess.
