CX500 turbo fuel system problems

Bike was brought to me for service, owner said it just wouldn't start one day after sitting a few weeks, first thing we check was the fuel pump, wasn't doing anything with the flick of the toggle switch, so we went down to the local Auto parts store and bought one from a Honda Prelude, found that information here, thanks guys! Anyway, not it just doesn't get any power to the pump, replaced the relay with another one we had laying around the shop, don't remember what it came off of but looked exactly the same, still no love! Curious thing though, the fuel system light is not coming on now at all? The owner said it used to come one for a few seconds when he turned the key and toggled the off/on switch? I can't find any fuse specific to the pump, took apart the on/off switch, cleaned the contacts, used dielectric grease and put it back together, but still no power to the pump? Any suggestions guys?? This is a great site, I've found alot of information so far, thanks ahead of time for your helps!!!!

Have you checked the tip over sensor? Any error codes on the ECU?

Not sure where the tip over sensor is located, and not real familiar with the ECU codes, the owner did provide a good service manual though. From what I've read so far, looks like I may need some more diagnostic type tools, our shop works primarily on new bikes, this is the first turbo I've actually worked on! The ECU is the computer under the rear tail piece, correct? Should I be looking for a certain string of red lights or something???

No special tools really needed. The shop manual and a good VOM should get you through just about anything.
The ECU is in the tail section and has a bank of LEDs on the side. During a fault code the fuel system dash light will stay on and you have to leave the ignition on while you pull the computer to check the LEDs. The shop manual has all the codes.
Before you condemned the old fuel pump, you did confirm 12 volts going to it, right? And now you don't have 12 volts?

Yes the old fuel pump would not do anything, even with a direct 12V to it, the new one WILL turn on with 12V, so it's working. The fuel system light on the dash isn't coming on at all now, I think I will try to find out where that tip sensor thing is and see if I can play with it, can it be bypassed? Also did some reading on another thread about speed sensors, this sure is an incredibly complicated motorcycle by the looks of it so far!!! The owner is steadfast in figuring it out though, he's had it for years and loves it, I can tell. I've got the wiring diagram so will start testing from the ECU back, I think that's probably the way to go, correct me if I'm wrong. Thaks for your help so far! Did a quick search on eBay and I think I found the tip over sensor, now I just have to find it on the bike!

Are you saying the guy that forgot more than we know took the bike to a mechanic to have it fixed? Same one that's on CL right now for $3K?

Yep, bike is in the Dallas area, I Googled CX500 turbo fuel system and found a bunch of links to this site, so I joined up. The owner seems like a nice guy to me, and he didn't mention anything about selling the bike, which makes no differnce to me, I get paid to fix bikes, not to find out if they are buying or selling it. He did call a guy on the phone today several times asking for help, must have been you PK? Thanks for your suggestions so far. Jeff

There are only so many things that control the fuel pump....Relay, shut off switch, wiring....
Not that tough to figure out...Use a meter and start tracing back...

Craigslist ad mentioned in over this other thread has been deleted. A new craigslist ad was posted July 10th with a price of 2400 but has also been deleted. Wonder if someone bought the bike yesterday?
Einstein, I mean George, I picked up on your reference to that one particular thread/post.
Didn't even make it a year before trying to sell it...hopefully the issues can get sorted.
