Allen bolt not going back into piston. Help?
Reply Quote
Okay, So I took apart the forks, no problem.... now reassembling and can not get allen bolt to go back into the piston! I've tried for 2+ hours. Seems the piston is not coming down all the way. What am I doing wrong?? I've tried with the leg extended, all the way in, half way in, using a wooden dowel to line up holes.... arrghhh!

Thanks, Roger

Did you put the springs back in?

Or did the bottom aluminum piece inside not seat right?

Take it apart and make sure the allen bolt will thread into the piston.  If it does try putting the aluminum cap over the piston and put the lower fork leg over them, then push with the fork upper.  That might help keep everything aligned.

Maybe I'm screwed up....

I thought the Piston goes 'inside' the fork tube. I really missed the boat on that one! Now that I look at the drawing again, appears the piston goes in and the fork tube on TOP of that. Now to take out circlip again, seal again......

That is what I get for assuming ...... and not paying attention to the pictures....

I got it..... seems the little aluminum plug at the end became dinged and did not allow the piston to enter into its position.

All is well, THANKS! everyone for your help!!
