Air Filter Boots install and Cone Option
Reply Quote
After rebuilding my carbs for a 1980 cx500c I am having trouble with the installation of the air filter boots which I removed with the carb. One of them has a small tear which I repaired. I am considering switching to the cone filters also. I would like to know what would be the best or correct  order to install the air box rubber boots and also if i do switch to cone what would be the or bracorrect size and what type nd would yall recommend ? Also what to with the overflow hose if I switch to cone and what other mods are necessary ?

Thanks,
Marz

ok take off both intake (engine side) and then the air box boots  thats the easy part and now to reinstall you do the air box side first and put the carbs in and then install the engine side its way easy this way i used to do it the other way around and fought it all day long if you do it the air box side first i say it takes all of 10 minutes

@ Lucky, Thank You, that makes sense since they are more flexible than the intake, One of my air box boots has a small tear. I have put a bandaid on it in the form of sealant glue "plexi-bond" I am going to put them on for now. ANY info on the cone filters anyone ?

well from i understand about the filters is that you might have to rejet your carbs but to fix your crack on your boot you can use some silicone and it should seal it right up for you or shep has told me this use a bicycle inner tube and stretch it over the boot ( i havnt tried that one yet) so i am not to sure how it works you might want to ask shep for some pics on that one

If i'm ever that dumb again I have it solved but what you do is fold them into a C shape, stick them in and unfold them. push them down from the inside of the rubber so the seat on the box right.

Pods can be a jet mess if you don't know how to do it. And even if you do it can be a pain.

@ Blindstich, Thanks I applied the plexi-bond to the damaged airbox boot. I am going to throw it on in the morning. Hope to beat the Department of Parking and Traffic.

@ Lucky, Removed intake boots then bent air filter boots in C shape before reinstalling the intake boots again. Worked well, took about 10 minutes
