Carb question of the week.
What is the purpose of the "Slow Jet" and why is there a rubber plug over it?

The rubber plug is there to plug off the chamber they had to cast in the carb so they could install the low jet. As you can see the low jet draws it's fuel through the main jet in the circuit next to it.
The jet delivers fuel to the idle and off idle circuit during the transition up through the rpm's where the secondary jet take over. That's the jet on the right of the low jet.

i'm assumnig you posted a picture. work filter has me blocked from seeing pictures. but now that i understand that it makes better sense to me. when someone rejets to they also change the low jet then since its what feeds the carb? I don't know if i'm too lean or if i have a massive vaccum leak or both

Yes there is a picture of the cut away that shows all the circuits. It's funny you ask about changing the low jet. I'm getting ready to do some testing and development on the low jet when it comes to running non stock exhaust and filters. It will be a couple weeks until I can finish what I think will make a difference on the way these bikes can run when modified. But yes, I think the low jet should be bigger when the system is modified. I'll be doing a post about it when it's all done.
