Yours isn't that far off mine Don.All I can hear is a little extra tappet noise and that's easy to fix,
http://www.sheppola.karoo.net/TwistedTwin/TappetsDressing.htm
Next time you do the tappets just take them out one at a time. What happens is that the tappet faces become uneven/pitted/square edges and then when setting the gaps the gaps are uneven so usually one or more is larger than it needs to be hence the extra noise.Nothing mysterious about it.Once you have a nice meniscus on them they are also easier to keep that way.The ones on that vid still haven't been re-done in over 8,000 miles now but if they needed to be it takes no time at all.

Every time I think about squaring the edges something convinces me that it's going to be a pain. I was actually thinking about making a jig up for it. Basically a threaded hole in a piece of flat stock that would hold the tappet to a sanding device. Something precise even thought the flapper wheel isn't a bad idea.
A belt sander would make it pretty quick and easy.

Shep I’d like to do this on my push rods. I’m a little confused on what to do. Does it need to be squared off or rounded? I saw your write up and photo on your site but I can’t see to well in the photo what you did. Can you explain what to do?.

You don't do it to the push rods or at least I've never seen a set that required it and I would be loathe to touch them as they don't have a lot of meat on them and are like the tappets e.g case hardened ends but not enough to dress really. However in saying this if yours are damamged and you cannot get new then I suppose you could lightly dress them with some 500 wet and dry grit paper but I would advise replacing them. Also you would have to crack the head gasket seals to do the Push-rods so you may as well do a full top-end de-coke if this were the case and most likely need a top-end gasket set. Note:It's virtually impossible to un-torque Cylinder head bolts to remove the rocker arm assembly without braking the Cylinder head gasket seal.Even if it appears ok it will let you down within a few hundred miles.

Sorry wrong terminology I meant tappets. When I went through tech school we called them push rods.

#2 is a push rod. 13 is the tappet.
