USA East Coast Turbo rally 2010?
|
|
|
|
|
Bob Miller over at the old TMIOA site is trying to put together a summer (June/July/August) rally in Pennsylvania this year. Anybody here interested? The only Turbo Rally I ever attended was in 2001 (Staunton, VA) but soon after that I mothballed my bike and only recently have gotten back into the turbo fray. I'm in if it happens!

I don't know how many riders a PA T rally might draw, but maybe he/they would consider combining it with the Amish Rally? The costs are low. The planning is substantially done. There are usually several Ts in attendance anyway. There'd be plenty of drooling spectators. Ron M. as a local (who is just a wee bit crazy) gets my vote for ride routes coordinator, and I suspect he would not be intimidated by most T riders on his ST. I know I would really enjoy such an expanded event, and it would likely draw more folks out than just additional T owners.

I just got this email today.......... ---------------------------------------------- Turbo Motorcycle International Owners Association presents TURBO RALLY XX - TURBOS TWO THOUSAND AND TEN! July 16 -18, 2010 Blakeslee, Pennsylvania This is year twenty-three and rally twenty for the TMIOA. The first rally (1992) was held in Virginia and hosted by thenpresident Allen Lough. At that first gathering, six factory turbos (four Hondas and two Yamahas) spent two days strafing the Shenandoah Valley . Since then, turbos have been unleashed, en-masse, in California, Georgia, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Canada. With the support of TMIOA members, turbo rallies will continue well beyond this twenty-fifth anniversary of the last mass-produced turbo motorcycle, the Kawasaki ZX750E2 Turbo. For those of you in attendance who are not members of TMIOA, please support us by making a purchase from our website, www.turbomotorcycles.org, so we may continue preserving, and you may continue enjoying, the factory turbo charged motorcycles. Although there is no fee for this event, there is a Registration and Release of Claims form that is required to be signed and returned at the event before receiving your event packet. Please ride safe and ride smart, and when you're not riding, think about joining us at Turbo Rally XX. Sincerely, Robert H. "Bob" Miller Robert H. I was also at the 2001 rally. Did you come late on Sunday morning and offer me a ride on your turbo?

High tea at the Blakslee Inn is at 2:30 P.M. Saturday. Sounds a lot like the Amish Rally.

I remember that battery strapped to the back but was thinking it was Andy Christiansens. I was on the Kaw Concours. Those group rides always seemed to become competetive and spirited.

How about planning a rally in central US instead of the East Coast....Maybe that's why everything went dead? There are bikes other places...

Quite true, even at its peak there was only an East and West coast rally. I would be willing to travel a full day to a rally, Maybe 600 miles. Would happily cover 1,000 miles in that same time span if it weren't speed limits
Still there must be Turbo people from NY, OH, MA, MD, DE, etc who could make it!

The "amish" rally is the 3rd week of August.
The turbo rally is the 3rd weekend of July

Pete, I think in order for that to happen, likely you or some other enthusiast from the central area will have to organize it.
The years that they had an east and west coast rally, very few if any attended both.

Anyone want to share room costs at the Blakeslee Inn? Who else here is going? I emailed Bob and he says that he has some RSVPs.

It would be fun to attend a rally again. I have been away for so long. I ride the 500T I crashed in 2001 daily and would like to take it to another rally and not crash this time. I miss all of the turbo buddies and would like to reconnect. Bringing the rebuilt 500T would be a little redemption I think. I have installed radial tires and an 18" rear wheel, and the bike rides and handles so much better than before with bias-ply,....no comparison.

Well, I'll bring a camera and take some photos. I could get there via the Interstate or the rustic route.
Some choices, via Mapquest:
SHORTEST TIME: (227 mi., 4 hours) : I-270(N) 40(W) PA-581(E ) I-83(N) I-80(E) PA-940(E)
OR
SHORTEST DISTANCE (215 mi., 5 hours): I-270(N) MD-28(E) MD-97(N) MD-140(N) MD-27 MD-86 PA-516 PA-216 I-83(N) PA-124(E) PA-462 US-30(E) US-222(N) US-422(E) PA-12(E) PA-61(N) PA-895 PA-443 PA-309 PA 903(N) PA-115(N)
I think I'll map out a hybrid of the two, as it will be late by the time I get there tonight and I don't want to be reading these directions in the dark.
