So I picked up a 1979 CX500D and I want to go with the cafe style with this bike, but I have no idea how to lower it.
Do you guys have any shock recommendations for the rear? For the fronts I'll probably just end up sliding the forks up in the trees and replacing the springs/oil to compensate for the loss of available travel.
Thanks!

VT750 shocks. 11"
CX500 Turbo, GL650I, Two CX650E's, and one Crown Jewel of the CX line- CX650T.
Why do I own five CX/GL bikes? Ask an alcoholic why he drinks.
Donating Member. Sold: 1981 CX500D, 2- 1982 CX500T's, 1983 CX650C.

Thanks for that, will any year work, or is there a specific range?
Edit, found out for myself. Looking at a set of 85 VT750 shocks.
Would you recommend newer shocks for any reason? Higher spring rate etc.

I don't recall the specific year VT shocks that I installed, but I used to haul my 170 lb self and a 235 lb moose of an ex-girlfriend on a CX500D, and the shocks never complained.
Bear in mind though, if you have a CX500D, you will have to cut off the helmet lock in order for them to fit. CX500C has no clearance issues.

That's good to know, I take my helmet inside the office though, so the lock is kinda extraneous for me.
I picked up some off ebay, 1987 I believe... They were $40 and not rusty, can't go wrong with that.

I just lowered my front by sliding the forks of about 1 and a half inch. But I can’t put back my clabman bar because the forks take the space. I had to put my handle bar reversed for now. Let me know if you end up with the same problem.
Thanks
