Left tail light stays lit?
|

Hey There,
This is probably an easy one for some of you experienced guys but I am pretty new to the whole wrenching thing. My wife dropped the bike when she was out the other day and wiped out the left front turn signal. I put a new bulb and lens cover on and it works fine. The right front works fine and the right rear works fine. However, the left, rear, tail light is on all the time except when blinking. It should be off like the right one is but stays on. I swapped light bulbs around but that doesn't seem to affect anything.
The front left signal indicator remains on as well.
I am guessing this is some sort of electrical short or something but don't really know where to start looking. I've taken the seat off and checked the connections there and they all seem to be seated properly.
Any suggestions?

Some of you may have seen this on Shep's site but with CC being down yesterday I was looking for help. Thanks to Blindstitch who has already made one suggestion on that forumn

Here is what Blindstitch posted:
I would probably look around in the headlight bucket for wires that aren't covered or may be touching others.
The fronts do have running lights so is there any chance you played with any of the wires?
And here was my response:
No, I didn't play with any of the wires up front. I did hook up a sissy bar that has lights on it and it is doing the same thing. I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the turn signal switch itself. If I get it just right, just a hair to the left of center, it will shut off the rear running light and the left turn signal indicator and not turn on the turn signal. Too far and the flasher starts to go, too little and the running light comes on.
Brit
Haven't pulled the headlight bucket off yet as I was hoping to hear some other possible remedies before taking that step.
Thanks again for any help

Well if you played with the rear then logic says it has to be in the rear.

I only played with the wires in the rear after the problem presented itself. Just pulled them, cleaned em up a bit, and reseated them. It didn't seem to help or harm the condition.

If the CX bikes have front running lights (front turn signals are dual filament and always on) then you either have the wrong bulb in the front or a bad ground on the front right. With a bad front ground the current would be flowing from the running light filament through the blinker filament and back through the rear lamp to the rear ground.
