I was reading an article in a major motorcycle mag and the CX500 custom was the number one best looking motorcycle in the world. Details later when I investigate the source later.

I don't think there's much better looking than a 70's Norton Interstate Commando, beautiful bike.

It's always going to be subjective but I have to agree that the Nortons were a beautiful bike in their time,

Stitch I'd take that bike over any chick any day.

I will be starting my 1969 Norton Commando fast back project this late summer/early fall.  I would like to know  if anyone here owns one and willing to share tech tips with me.

Buy low sell high.

I would ditch the Norton or should I say both nortons. That's a money pit. Especially if you think your gl650 is expensive.

But it better be with the boy racer Rickman conversion ! LOL

That's a beauty.

One of my M8s I ride with has a BSA SS B50,

It was an American export then re-imported back into England a couple of years a go by a bloke over here who he bought it off.

Motorcyclist.

It was facetious.

It seems the rest of the motorcycling community finds our CXs asthetically objectionable.

The truth is, the CX is not a particularly handsome bike. Personally, I don't find it's looks objectionable, but they are rather "standard"... you could even say bland.

The "beauty" of the CX is in its utility -- it's a very well designed, well built bike. Akin to the BMW R-GS series of bikes. They're the most homely machine ever conceived. But their utility makes them cool.

At least that's how I see it.

My PERSONAL opinion of the first CX design ?..........................

W.T.F. !!!!!!!!!!

Whoever designed the seat style shoulda been fired and sent to Yugoslavia to design hemeriod cushions !!

The fuel tank designer wasnt far behind ! And WTF is up with the tailight design ?

I mean, come on !!!!!!

The F series right immediately at that era was so sweet a design, sexy, and looked fast just sitting still.

They REALLY screwed up on the visual design big time !!

They should have drawn more eye appeal from, say, Guzzi .

Well said Northland.  I agree with the seating, and tank design.  I think I am in agreement with you on the early taillight design.  I like  the tail light.  I am trying to incorporate it on my cx custom.

Oh I saw a Guzzi last week and your absolutely right.  That bike came cruzin down my street.  And I couldn't tell for sure but I told me friend "thats a cx500 that someone has customized,  I be back".  And I jumped on my cx custom and chased it down.

The bike was greenish, a solo seat that said moto guzzi on it.  I told myself I have to either make one of those or buy one.

I haven't seen it since.  And the girl riding it was looking good on it.

Thanks for the opinion Joel !!!!

I absolutely love the Honda CX / GL series of bikes.......yet, seriously, I think they tried to hard to be different in the visual style of the first CX's.

They could have let the revolutionary engineering do the talking, and, made a tasteful visual design over it.

Here a Guzzi V-50

http://classic-motorbikes.net/images/gallery/11118.jpg

And here is one of my favorite Honda's from that era...........I can still see Freddie Spencer comin out of turn 5 at Road America yankin the front wheel off the ground in the rain on the factory works bike !!!!!!!

Northland I saw an older guzzi go by my house three weeks ago. I thought it was a customized cx 500 made to look like an older sytle bike. I jumped on my bike and caught up to it and it had a solo seat with a chrome bar around the back of the seat, the seat read moto guzzi on it. green in color. fenders that stretched way down. I've looked for that style of moto guzzi online and I can't find it. It isn't a cafe style.

Oops I guess I already wrote that.
