|

Although this is a CX650 euro, my Turbo has a similair gap between the seat and the aft fairing.
What is causing this and how can I correct it ?
Now I have to tell the people it's and heat exchange exhaust for the ECU

Without visually inspecting the seat, I have three guesses.
1) The Vinyl has shrunk so much it's pulling up on the seat. 2) Your seat is not "seated" properly, maybe there is extra material pushing it up, like two rubber pieces when there should only be one. 3) The bike has been down, and the rear fairing subframe is bent.
How much gap is between the tail light and the rear fairing?

A bit off-topic, but the seats on the CX500EC and CX650ED (which are all but identical in covering and base), have a small "hook" nearly at the rear end, and it engages with a hole in the rear fender (or is it the transverse metal bar which gives the seat its rear support), to hold the rear of those seats down, thus overcoming the annoying gap as posted in Pim's picture.
Maybe we need to modify the turbo's seatpan and fender to have this Honda facility from another of the family.

What Don in Oz said, and the possibility of shrinkage (Thank you Seinfeld)
I never paid close attention to it, but on the bike I have there are a couple of nylon hooks in the seat pan that hook into the tank. My old tank, the 'tabs' are broken, and the seat is pushed too far forward. (creating a gap at the back) on the new tank, the problem was solved Tabs do what they are supposed to.... Like I said, I knew about the tabs at the front, but never gave a second glance at the back to see how it was fastened there... will check tonight.

Pim, If that's your 650 ED, then you either have a turbo seat on it, you have broken the "hold down" hook off the seat-pan, or you haven't installed the seat correctly.

No Don that's not my 650 ED. But I have a spar 650 ED seat to be used on my Turbo. If I have the time I will have a look at the differances. On my current Turbo seat there was a MC7 code so it should be a Turbo seat.
Interesting is what CXSarnia says that the broken tank tabs ( who has them still ?? ) can result in the seat being to far forward

Tabs on the tank would be my guess too. With them gone the seat can sit lower at the front, raising the back.
My tank still has the tabs and my seat presents no gap at the rear. 1 inch from plastic to underside of seat. (Had to go measure)

My seats fit nicely too. Tabs are on both my bikes. They aren't exactly flimsy, how do people manage to break them off?

Can someone post pictures of the tabs on both the tank and the seat? If possible with a ruler or tape measure beside them so I can see the size of them. The tabs on the tank are busted and the ones on the seat are damaged. Would like to see what they should look like.
Thanks

This is the only picture I have of a tab but it should give you an idea of what it looks like.

I can see from the picture that the seat is not fitted properly at the tank. It looks like the plastic slots in the seat (that accept the tank tabs) are sitting on top of the broken tabs. I fixed my broken tank tabs with errector set pieces (Meccano if you are in Europe) and attached them to the tank with metal epoxy putty, they are the right shape for the seat attachment slots.

An "Ooops" to my original posts on the fastening-down of the rear of the seats for the CX500EC and CX650ED.
There is a 1" diameter hole in the seat-pan where the seat-pan rests on the lateral support bar of the frame, and that lateral support bar has the HOOK as part of the bar - it hooks into the rear of the hole in the seat-pan, as you slide the seat forward onto the lugs on either side of the tank.
This would be a relatively simple mod. to the turbo and its seat-pan.

I should have taken a picture, but I found the tab due to your description. It was bent down against the rear cross-frame support. I took a screwdriver and bent it up so that it would accept the thickness of the seat pan and the hole in the pan. It worked well and now the seat fits well at the rear as well as having more support throughout the seating position.
For those others who may have a risen seat, take a look to see if there is a tab in the middle of the cross frame support on the bike and under the seat. It's about 3/4 of the way back the seating area. IF the seat pan has sat on the tab, it may be bent down and appear to have some other function such as a place to attach a rubber strap. That is the hook to secure the rear part of the seat. The hole in the rear of the seat slides over and under that tab.
This also allows the seat bolts to fit where they are supposed to.
Excellent observation.!!

Thanks, Tony. I thought I might have been preaching up-wind. It fits very well, and holds the rear of the seat quite solidly.
The front tabs are another thing entirely, and definitely need the rubber bushes on them, to give a tight fit in the slots of the seat-base.
