Well, I trust everyone here is having a great summer. It's been quite warm here lately, as anyone in Ontario can attest. About time, too - the prior two summers were crap.
No much new with me to report - I am now a full "M" licensed rider (passed my road test through a course at Sheridan College on June 13). I've been forcing myself to get on the bike more often this year, despite the fact my business is keeping me occupied. Having had a lot of time to ride my CX500 - it passed a safety way back in March, but the tires are done. They're original, so can't expect them to last forever. Severe dry rot on the front tire is showing tread separation - it hasn't been a priority so I haven't bothered riding or getting new tires yet.
Both bikes fire right up and ride well, though. Wish I could say the same for my Fiero (AKA Car of Fire). Damn thing has let me down a few times this year.
Hope to log in here a little more often...between work, some riding, and trying to have a social life, I try not to live on the computer.
Anyway, hope everyone is well. If anyone here in Ontario has some leads on inexpensive new tires for the CX500, I'm all ears. What we pay for rubber north of the border is criminal. Was considering ordering a set of cheap tires from somewhere like Bike Bandit.....I can get two tires for less than the cost of one here.

I bought a front tire from Burlington Cycle last fall (Bridgestone Spitfire S11 for $90). Had them install it with a new valve stem - came to around $150 with everything in.

Bad news first: Bikebandit can't ship tires across the border (at least not when I tried last year)
Good news: You should be able to get a pair of Kenda tires for relatively cheap. I can't remember which model I went with, but I was happy with them.

Hey, there ya are!
Tires, my sportbike friends go through 3 or 4 sets a year, they make a bulk order then have them shipped to this warehouse in Niagara Falls NY:

I don't think I'd want to be riding on original tires, they must have the traction of crayons by now.
679-BIKE in Hamilton is a bit less expensive for tires. Zdeno Cycle in Kitchener used to have great deals on year old tires as well.

I've had and just bought another Kenda Challenger. Front was about $100 installed.
No problems with the tire.

Thanks for the replies. I see another fellow Burlingtonian here.
You must have hit a sale at Burlington Cycle. I go in there regularly, and the tires are not currently on sale. Same tire (evidently, I run the same Bridgestones on my GL500) is around $120 or so for the front, and a bit more for the rear. That doesn't include installation...
As for the original tires having poor traction - eh - not bad, but that's not the main concern. The treads are separating on the front tire from dry rot. My tires passed safety because they weren't cracking back in March, despite being told they check the date code. After about 200 or so kilometers, the front tire is showing that it's definitely done. I parked it over a month ago, and have been riding the GL500.
Can't ship tires over the border? Well that's going to really put a damper on things. What's the reasoning there?

Yes you can ship tires over the border, but shipping within the states is way cheaper than international shipping. Also the person who does this lives in Welland so it's not a big deal to pop over to NY. He also has the tools to install and balance his own tires. That seems a bit extreme but if you've got 5 guys each using 3 or 4 sets of tires a year it pays off pretty quick.
Last time I checked Burlington Cycle charges MSRP for tires + installation and balancing + valve stem. 679-BIKE also charges MSRP but that includes installation balanceing and valve stem.
