Pirate Succulent Garden

Before we moved into Calypso's there was a huge tree in the yard. They cut it down and mulched the stump.

We were left with this. A mound of rotting rough mulch full of large tree pieces.

For some reason the yard is FULL of 3" river rock and pea gravel. I mean FULL!

They even buried the old sidewalk under 2" of rock. That was fun to dig out.

I made a screen sorter, laid down some plastic on the mulch pile, and spent most of the weekend shoveling gravel onto the screen and sorting rocks.

My buddy John showed up at about this point. I jumped on the Wing and we spent the next 3 hours driving up to Lake Cucamunga and back down a triple diamond cavern road. Great break!

Bought $150 worth of succulents and some sand, added an old pirates chest I made and viola!

This is only step one in an ambitious landscaping plan. One area at a time.

I also bought a couple bags of cement and a fake Cobblestone rock mold. Gonna start laying out the new paths.

Looks much better.  I'd be wary of using sand though, while we see a pirate garden, cats see a public toilet.  Learned that lesson the hard way on a cement job once....

1978 CX500 - I live on a one-way street that's also a dead end. I'm not sure how I got here, or how I'm going to get out.
