Hi!! My 1st post on here... just getting my 650C roadworthy... i went thru the carbs on it and somewhere i must have goofed...It starts fine.. idles great and cruises down thwe road fine. If i crack it wideopen it will die till i back off the throttle, then it will catch and go again.... I'd appreciate any ideas on this Thanks!

airbox and filter still there mike?
1983 GL650i
Had 4 CX/GL's at one point this year, down to one, next spring is another adventure!

age 38 (29 plus tax)

all stock...good airfilter... motor sounds great..it's like it runs out of fuel... valves set... synced... it cruises great 60-70...but if u wack it open ... falls right on it's face, till u back off thr throttle then it catches again

Are the vacuum pistons free?  They need to move up and down without any hangups.  It sounds like maybe they are not opening quickly enough.  Maybe a lack of vacuum going to them too.  Check all your air boots and the O rings when the insulators attach to the head.

when i had the carbs apart i cleaned the vacum pistons and the bores, all movement was very free and smooth.... i took it out tonite and it seemed like it dropped the right cyl more than the left. Whatever it is, i'm going to have to take them off again.ahhh the joys of older bikes LOL... thanks for any help u can give me,... mike

the boots are in very good shape and just for insurance i used hitemp silicone to seal them to the heads... good idea tho... i think i'll take the tops off tomorrow nite and see if every thing is still sliding free

Have you fitted the primary and secondary main jets the correct way round?

On a CX500 the 78 goes into the carb body and the 112 goes into the Brass emulsion Tube.Also if you have an in-line filter make sure you have not reversed the flow arrow.
