Devil [6] yet another seat question
Reply Quote
I see all the great options for seats on the cx. I have a GL with the 2 part seat and dual latches that hold the rear seat on or the trunk. I don't have the rear trunk nor want one but a better seat thats something I want and my butt would like. The harley seat would be cheap a nd easy for me to get. Heres the question.

Anyone put a different seat on their GL500? I am interested on how it was done with the latches and lack of a metal rear fender. I have a few ideas but just want to know what people have done and what not to do.

I haven't seen any Gl's that weren't totally cut down with modified seats. Have you thought of just removing the cover and foam and redo it in a way that makes it more comfortable. The good part with the plastic gl seat is you can staple it.

If need be pick up one of those harley pillow solo seats and see about fabricating brackets just like the gl seat has. I think it might have a lip up front and two nubs that are held by bolts.

i do have a spare set of seats so I can play around with recovering. I have looked for new covers but all i get is CX covers. When I did find a Gl cover it was $80 per seat. I will have to call my sister she gets screaming deals on take offs through her work for harley parts. Maybe I can mold the 2 pans together somehow or make the nub and side bolts work. I guess its trial and error time. The woman will hate me now for working on the bike again until she gets to jump on the back and not have numb butt syndrome lol

I know that I am on my own for coming up with a seat for this bike. What I would like to know is what time a foam did you all use with your seats? This will give me a better place to start

I cut out the foam and put a gel pad under the cover and a sheepskin on top.

By the way, I have new cover for sale:http://choppercharles.com/cs/forums/193923/ShowPost.aspx#193923

jwnovaman-

Check out my weblog, I have just finished (OK, I can't weld, so I assisted the bf) having a Harley seat put on my bike. Some welding was done- nothing cut on the frame- and if I ever wanted to go back to a stock seat (which I never never want to do) the welds can be cut off and the stock seat put back on!
