Other Trunks...
Reply Quote
Hi,
I've only had my GL500i for about six weeks and am already getting tired of swapping out the trunk with the rear passenger seat. I'm seen a couple pictures of folks with Goldwing GL1100/1200 trunks on. Does anyone have better pictures of how they are bolted on? Or has anyone put a non-Honda trunk on? (I'd go the extender route, but I'd like to be able to put my helmet in the trunk.) Thanks for any help.

I recently returned to Vermont to straighten out a few problems with our property up there. I returned with a trailer load of stuff which included my patterns for a Gl 500/650 luggage rack for mounting a larger trunk behind the passenger seat. I occasionally build and sell these luggage racks. Not chromed.

How much would a rack cost and do have any pictures of one installed? Would it work with a Vetter trunk? Thanks.

I bought a trunk off eBay and it's a model that according to the sticker inside it goes to a cb650 or at least it's compatible with it. I then attached it to a flat rack I had and with the back rest the trunk has on it my gf loves it. I'm happy to send you some pics if you like. I too would prob get annoyed by switching that out all the time. Plus my trunk has great storage space too

Either do a search for a Markland trunk extender or look on Craigslist for GL500s. You will see some that have the trunk on the back behind the rear seat. You can either buy one if you can find one (expensive), or fabricate one so you can always have the trunk on the bike and still have a passenger. It will also of course give the passenger a backrest to boot. My avatar has the Markland trunk extender on the bike.

I have a Markland trunk extender for sale. I just finished fabing up a new one to mount an 82 Goldwing trunk on. It doubles as a rack, a feature I am enjoying while I work on the GW trunk.
I'll get some pics up in the next few days.

Daristotle,

Da Bear is a straight up guy, hooked me up before. If your looking for a mount for your existing trunk, that's the way to go.
It looks good because of the chrome sides and gives extra protection.

I have a non markland style extra. It's not homemade, but most homemade styles will have this appearance.

I'm tempted to use the stock trunk on an extender, but I'd really like to be able to put my helmet in the trunk. Plus, I got a deal on an old Vetter trunk. Has anyone mounted one up to a Silverwing?
