Nice welding!
How much metal did you add, and what kind? 1/4" plate or what?

Did you grind your welds or hammer them down?

I welded a piece of 3/8" x 1 1/2" flat bar on the inside Then I used 1/8" plate on the outside I will post another picture of it finished because I used a piece of 1/2" plate on edge to make the bottom piece which is welded on the inside of the frame. Then I boxed in the bottom edges

That's probably the most stretched CX500 I have ever seen. Very nice job but you may need some risers for the bars,

I see the beginning of an expanded steel side cover in the first picture (laying on the ground) that would be a nice "Road Warier" touch.
*Lecture* "That bike is too low and will handle like crap". "You are going to break your spine with a hard tail" "That exhaust will scare and piss off the cagers" "That bike was too nice to chop" "You have just signaled the coming of the apocalypse"
Screw em. If you are happy, I'm happy. Id like to see the finished project (like they are ever finished)

The lecture won't have anything to do with those things.
Grinding welds.
I'm going to get some popcorn.

Actually I was thinking of the don't grind your welds movement.

What is wrong with grinding the welds down? other than too much grinding and you loose integrity of the weld.. but if you just grind down the really high spots so you can use filler to fill in the low spots what is the harm? When welding semi-truck frames we always ground down the welds to hide them... I am getting ready to build a frame for another bike and just want to hear this...lol

Hey again iron, I'm pretty sure i"m on your side.
Grinding structural welds is bad if it's the structure of a motorcycle
or race car or building, same differance, bad idea. Welds that are not
structural but are still required to hold no matter what can and are
quite often ground down for more reasons than just looks. |
|
Steering head..... would that be considered "structural"? LOL

BALLER. I've welded once, so I've no stake in this, but that looks fantastic. I too love low and mean. And long, wow, that'll shade a good chunk of the road. Now as for handling with a rake like that, again, I've no personal experience and no stake, but, unless you're planning forward controls (I guess that's a question, are you?), you'll have lots of weight on the handbars, and thus somewhat better handling, yes? Am I off on this? -nick
