Trying to figure things to look for that can cause rotten mileage. I'm only getting about 32 mpg, (regular gas, 87 proof) most of it short trips around town. Still, I figure that I can do better than that.
• Jets are correct.
• Tire pressure is good.
• No air leaks.
• Carbs reasonably balanced, but could be better.
Suspected culprets:
• Float bowls not balanced. (Will pull & check)
• Older plugs (Iridiums on order)
So, is there something else I'm missing that could be robbing me of MPG? Thanks...

Yes, Shep, stock everything. I figure highway should be 45~50 but would around town really be only 32 or so?
Abes....I'll check the air filter but it's a fairly new K&N.
I'll jack up the front this weekend and check the spin. Thanks for that idea...

As Abe says check the filter. You can run without one but then have to adjust the mixture to allow for the extra airflow.
Check that brakes aren't binding. Carbs of course and float heights are paramount. Exhaust leaks as well.I'm assuming you are using US gallons so that mileage is really low even for Urban riding.
for Urban riding my Stock CX does say around 50+ Mpg UK which is about 41 US.The best I've had with mixed riding/day out was around 60 mpg UK 50 mpg US. What condition are the plugs after a ride?
Compression test.Cold and running?

MY 2 cents,
Check float height, P/O of mine had the floats so high he rtv'd the bowl gasket to stop leak.
Make sure the rubber plug is in place in bowl, P/O left it out on left side carb.
Make sure jets are tight, I found the left side jet loose lying in bottom of float bowl.
Look at air valves on side of carb, P/O had broken 1 of the screws off, small air leak.
My mileage is better now, althought more to do.

Get rid of the K&N and put a paper filter back in.
Many guys over on the CB750 custom sites have dumped the K&N and gone back to paper filters after poor performance and mileage with the K&N. My 1100F ran like crap with a K&N....runs awsome with a stock paper.
These CV carbs are part of a carefully designed system....mess with part of that system and I believe your asking for problems.
83 CB1100F Super Sport No Twins at this time. :( Went through about 12 of them tho!
