Changing rear tire... brakes?
Reply Quote
Howdy all... occasional poster constant reader. (search feature ain't workin for me sorry.)

1st tire change upcoming. Just the rear needs swapped out. Any hints or tips to help me along? and since I have it off was thinking about ordering brake pads just in case... If I need em great, if not, I'll have em for next time. I'm no pro, but have help available. What should I be ordering, and looking for while I have the back end off?

Thanks all!!!

Really just the shoes.  Not much else in there serviceable.

I fully strip the rear brake system and clean and remove any corrosion from the Brake shoe actuator and apply a small amount of grease to it.I also use some 180 ish grit paper inside the hub and also de-glaze the shoes if being re-used.Most shoes come with a chamfer on the leading edge but if not present I put one on with a file.
I degrease and re-pack the drive unit splines etc with lithium or Moly grease and clean and de-corrode the axle and grease. If you haven't already then whilst doing this work you should also change the drive box oil and grease the zerk fitting.
