Surprise [:O] Resistor plugs dr8ea?
Reply Quote
I removed the resistors from my plug caps, Is the resistor replacement a DR8EA instead of the D8EA? has anyone had any problems after removing the resistors from the caps... my right cylinder cuts out after 8000. and what should the primary and secondary resistence be without the resistors... is there a different value for this setup?

I've run my CXs with resistor plug caps combined with resistor Spark plugs. No problems.
I've run my CXs with none resistor plug caps and resistor plugs. No problems.

I'd look somewhere else for your problem.

Faulty plug cap(Modification should be checked for continuity e.g zero resistance and good inner contacts)
Faulty plugs.
Faulty coils caused by age or heat damage(Air-Dam missing).
CDI unit if applicable.
Faulty Advance and retard unit.
Faulty carbs/badly serviced and setup and or air leaks and or unbalanced.
Exhaust leaks.

The resistor, in the cap &/or the plug, is unnecessary on these bikes but I wouldn't alter the setup of a turbo since it has some intelligent electronics that could get spooked by RFI emissions.

If you have a radio on the bike you'll want resistors - preferably in the plugs and especially if you ever listen to AM radio.

This is also the day I want to share an old read wiith you all if you're in the mood for learning. It takes some time to read through the entire website but it's a wealth of knowledge.

I use these wires on all my cars and would on the bike if it had replaceable ones, if I recall the wires are an integral part of the coils on a '79 CX Custom.

Enjoy:

I've used their products on the multitude of cars I've jhad since I first found them some 30 years ago. Being an engineer I can understand the validity of their claims and they will be the last set of wires you'll ever have to buy.

do the 78's have an advance retard unit or is that just the TI models?

another question, could the floats be low in that side and just starving at high rpm?

what is the level for these carbs...... I have the plastic floats and the measurements given in the manual are for the metal kind.

Yes.All automotive engines have/need an advance and retard mechanism.Plastic floats are not supposed to be adjustable but I have managed it,
